WAnd while it's a different matter, I'm going to have a field day figuring out what programs I can trash and which services to disable or make manual, because most of them are either worded like they're important and required, or they don't give enough information for me to tell either way. Which means I'll be doing a lot of searches on the Internet to figure out what should stay and which should go. =_=

As far as the confirmation boxes, those are the best defense you can get against malware. Even with a solid antivirus, if you allow programs to install the antivirus will often be unable to protect you. Those boxes keep that from happening, unless you don't pay attention.

Once again, it sounds like your complaints are about it being different rather than being bad. That's fine, but you'll have to get used to it eventually. Admittedly, though, waiting for Windows 7 would probably be a good move.

Malware is a clear example of one of the system's flaws: because it's so vulnerable I need to be bothered by a prompt for a lot of the things I do in Windows. And I'll probably be doing that often until (or if; since I may just install XP on it) I get the hang of it. That's not about it being different. ;p XP has the same flaw, but I'd rather not be bothered so much for safety's sake. (And I've managed fine without it for three years.) Beyond that Vista doesn't seem to be too different thus far, overall. Nothing that some time and exploration won't fix. But it still lacks the efficiency that I'm used to with XP... Despite getting a faster computer, it does things slower. ;/

I'll check the Japanese stuff tomorrow. But, if I got the right information, my version of Vista doesn't have any other languages installed and waiting to be used. I guess there's only one way to find out. I'll check that other site, too; despite it having a suspect name.

It's free, and if my memory serves me correctly, the download is a LiveCD, which allows you to test it out simply by placing the CD in the drive on startup. It won't actually install until the "Install to Hard Drive" icon on the desktop is activated, and even then, there's a few setup questions that need to be asked, so you get lots of time to back out if necessary.

Personally, I've always considered it to be nonsensical to use the avatar for anything other than for the personal personification of yourself. Then you don't ever have to worry about which character takes precedence over another. I mean, in Caprice's case, her character is pretty much herself; so she can be herself anywhere. But, usually, someone will reserve a character for a certain place (like the Muffin room) and be themselves elsewhere.

I'm wondering if they'll ever add the option to switch avatars for posts. That'd be helpful.
