You should get the free paint.net : http://www.getpaint.net/
It has all the essential functions to resize, crop, do some color adjustments

Or you could try the online and free https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html
By the makers of Photoshop themselves

But I admit you would look great with your avatar as done by Nikkou.

I didn't know about those, Rodney. Perhaps I shall look into them for my future avatar needs.

Nikkou, I am sorely tempted by that. Give me, lets say two more, and I'll pick one!

I'm overcoming my laziness by having other people do the work! Also, I've just always had a hard time coming up with avatar ideas.

Do what I did, take one of your fave anime/manga/VG/TV characters and have them doing something.

Unfortunately, I got my new computer today, so... Perhaps someone else can suggest the other two. Aside from the multiple reasons for why I'm moaning and groaning about using Vista, circumstances won't allow an easy switch so I can use my old computer, and thus its resources, for the time being (due to desk space (well, space in general), location of said available space (hard to see and maneuver things), and all of the wires and connections). Once I get settled in with Vista *El shudder-o*, I'm going to see about hooking the Hard Drive of my old computer to the new one.

And I must add this: I'm not happy about my language options. Or lack of them, rather.

My main computer is a vista and I find it better than XP to use, there's a learning curve to it, but once you figure out the new filing system and the new start menu everything runs fairly smooth. Only issue I had was finding the coding to use my wireless card on vista.

Vista? Vista? Wow, Crescent, I actually find myself pitying you.

You have no idea. Fortunately, I found an XP recovery disc. I probably would have used it already, if not for the fact that I've never had to use one before, and because I'd like to keep some of the things that came with the computer (Microsoft Word 9, for instance).

What's ticking me off the most, right now, is a distinct connection problem on the Internet. Downloads keep stalling, and, upon testing an online game, I keep getting disconnected every few minutes. Which is beside the fact that Vista itself is slow, in starting applications, opening windows, and other related things. I'm sorely tempted to go through all of the hassle of getting old faithful up and running again. It may not have the power and speed, but at least it's snappy when it comes to the things that it can handle. Start-up alone must take at least ten times longer on this computer. =_=

Yeah, may as well go with something that cooperates with you.

What makes me chuckle is the hype over Windows 7, even though it's been confirmed by the beta testers that they might as well have called it Windows Vista 6.1 instead of Windows 7. After botching Vista development for 5 years, people think Microsoft has fixed it in less than two?

Vista is quite a good operating system now, at least as far as Windows goes. (I've never used anything else significantly) It took a few years for them to get it that way, so it got a bad reputation, but now I'd certainly say it's better than XP. Windows 7, on the other hand, is essentially a cleaner, faster Vista that uses less resources. I've heard nothing but excellent things about it, whether from professional reviewers or beta-tester family members.

Which means, of course, that you can't believe what anyone says. So it's useless! :P

Now, if Firefox had a mate in an OS, I'd use that if I could. But, you know, I'm satisfied with XP. I certainly didn't have as much trouble with it when I first got it, like I did with Vista today. For instance, I made an admin account because, like, that's what you're required to make for a first account? I got some bull crap about not being able to do something because I wasn't an admin. What? And this thing keeps on popping up, telling me if I really want to do this or that in Windows with every move I make, to prevent unwanted intrusions and changes. Like, hello? It's me? The owner? Aren't you good enough to tell the difference? Gosh! (I mean, if it can tell whether if it's me or an intruder giving the go-ahead to do something, why ask me to proceed with something in the first place? What the hell?) I wish I could find the option to shut that damn thing off without compromising any significant protection in general (you know, in case it happened to be tied to a host of security safeguards, and wanting to negate one means negating them all). Not to mention that it wasn't until I got rid of that stupid dock thing (along with that dumb sidebar) that I discovered 20+ useless shortcut icons that I could get rid of. And while it's a different matter, I'm going to have a field day figuring out what programs I can trash and which services to disable or make manual, because most of them are either worded like they're important and required, or they don't give enough information for me to tell either way. Which means I'll be doing a lot of searches on the Internet to figure out what should stay and which should go. =_=

I dunno. I could probably get used to it, but I don't think Vista will ever redeem itself in my eyes. It's very likely that I'll switch to XP and save myself the trouble. Though only if I can save some stuff on that computer, since I assume switching the OS will wipe out everything in the process.

But, seriously. It doesn't look like I have any language options with this version of Vista (premium), and it seems like only two out of a half dozen or so do. My system must have Japanese, at the very least. But it's too late to get a version of Vista that has that option. But I do have XP, which does. So... I guess we'll see. Until then, I'll keep using old faithful. *Pat-pats it lovingly*

(The funny thing is that my new computer is called a "mini" studio, but it's slightly bigger than this one, which I consider to be a standard-sized tower. O.o)
