"See? You got me for a roommate for a reason!" Chione laughed just a bit, lightly. "Image of logic, I am.... But really, in all seriousness, I don't think you need to worry. I'm sure they'll get you anything special you need to carry on." Wonder if the pet is a seeing-eye dog, or something? Guess we'll find out when he gets here.

Amy laughs. It's an oddly comforting sound, not too loud, but not nervous, either. "Yeah... Um, do you happen to know what time it is?"

"Time? Oh, wait a minute...." Chione patted her pockets, finding a wrist watch with a broken strap in one of them. "Haven't replaced that yet," she explained with a chagrined laugh, before consulting the time device. "It's about lunchtime or so, here. No wonder we're hungry!"

"Ooh! Cerie should be here soon, then. I hope he makes it by lunch..."

She leans over and lowers her voice.

"I always slip him some leftovers."

Chione chuckled. "Aw, I would too. You got a picture of him? I'd love to see what he looks like! Yes, even though we'll get to see him for real soon. I just love pets, you know?" Pets, stuffed toys.... All that sort of thing.

Looking up from her book, Sandra decides to enter the conversation. "I suppose if we are going to be living together, we should get to know one another. Shall I go first or would one of you rather do it?"

Oh, Sandra had been so quiet they had almost forgotten she was there! "Sure, you go ahead. I'd like to hear more. What are you reading?" Chione was getting a sense of Amethyst, but Sandra was largely still a closed book.

(Hey, I leave today for Otakon, so I'll be gone a few days. Till Sunday night. See you then!)

((OOh, have fun and enjoy yourself. I, sadly, won't be able to go to my usual con this year.))

"Well, as you know my name is Sandra Drake. I'm the daughter of the somewhat infamous Dr. Jason Drake, a well known scientist in the fields of both physics and chemistry. I am not so surprised at what is here because of my dad who is really an alchemist hot on the trail of some of the ancient knowledge thought lost in this world. What I am reading is one of my father's books that he left me after an accident took him a few years ago. Its some info on some of the basics of 'true name' invocation."

(Peace out, Guen. Bring me back something cool! )

"Alchemy? Really?" Amy's voice is carefully neutral. "That sounds interesting. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sandra."

She then waits patiently for Chione to speak, or see if it's her turn.

(Thanks, guys! I had a great time. Sorry you can't make your usual one, Raleigh. That' sad....)

"Yeah, it does sound interesting." Chione chewed on another cookie for a moment. "I'm Chione Drake- no relation, oddly enough!" she added with a laugh. One of her roommates had the same last time as her- what were the chances of that, really? "This place was surprising, but I've adjusted pretty readily. I think it's also because of my Dad- he's a prolific fantasy author. If you've read the genre you may have heard of him. His name is Gordon Drake. It's rubbed off on me at least a bit; I may as well warn you girls now that I'm obsessed with dragons and collect swords. Couldn't bring the collection with me though, sadly.... And even though I did bring some dragon stuff, I promise not to fill the room with it!" She laughed again before taking another bite of her cookie.

Amy laughs along with her. "Wow, you're lucky. I'm not very good at art, or writing, or any of that, really. I guess it's my turn, isn't it?"

Amy takes a deep breath. "Well, my name is Amethyst White, but everyone just calls me 'Amy'. Strangely enough, amethyst is also my birthstone... weird, huh? Anyway, I know I already have at least a little experience in the way of these powers that they'll be teaching us, mostly because of my father, Michael. He's a nice man. He's the head of an army, too, or at least a division. I'm sort of okay with a sword, I guess, I never really got much practice. I already told you about Cerie, my seeing-eye dog and best friend ever.

"I'm really not that interesting."

"Aw, of course you are!" Chione gave her a one-armed hug. "I mean, I collect the swords, but it's not like I'm expert at using them! And my dad's the author, not me. It's all second-hand! In fact, I get you could teach me some things about the fighting. No, you're quite interesting! And I'm being honest here. I don't share my cookies with boring people," she added with a little grin.

Ian stared. "They want us to sleep on those?" He asked; substantial trepidation creeping its way into his voice. "They seriously expect us to sleep on mats." Then he groaned. "I guess it's not like we have any choice is it?"
Hmm.... Does anyone actually read these anyway?
