Spectral Hunt: Final Night in London

Postby Raleigh » Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:13 pm

((OOC: Alright folks, we launch the rp. If you would post your character profiles in the other spectral hunt thread and then post in here that would be great. I need to keep track of the characters involved so I can judge the viability of this setting.))

Night fell as it often does, probably because it can't see very well but that is neither here nor there. The streets of London had seen a recent explosion of spectral activity to those that knew what the signs were. While the normal populace slept in their comfy heated homes or enjoyed a good football game on the tv at the pub, agents of Eidolon Corps began moving across the city. Tonight would be a prime night for a hunt of the supernatural. Sure there would be some casualties amongst the civilian populace but there always is. In the end though, tonight's hunt could provide enough energy to power a small country for the next year.

A shape moved a bit in the shadows. Gravel crunched softly underfoot, sound scarcely audible over the background cacophony of vehicles, voices, and other city sounds echoing from the street not far beyond. There were things abroad tonight; things many a person believed did not exist. Or rather, hoped did not.
She who moved amongst these shadows knew better. Many forces moved in the night, ready and waiting to pounce. So long as they were not pounced upon themselves, of course.... Her fingers closed around the medallion about her neck, a simple piece, bearing a five-pointed star enclosed in a circle. A pentagram, that ancient symbol of protection, nowadays so often misunderstood.
She knew what was out there. And she was more than ready to face up to it- and bring it down.

Not too far away she should be able to see a small red light burning away at the tip of a cigarette. "You ready for tonight? Its going to become something of a ruckus I understand."

Deirdre nodded, barely visible as a shift in the shadows. "Aye. I do understand quite well. And I am definitely prepared for it."

A not-too-quiet clomping sound is heard across the street as a tall figure appears out of an alley looking relaxed, almost bored.

"Well, it's about time."

A bystander would probably feel sorry for the young boy dashing through the streets of London. He was small, slight even, and neither his bulky glasses nor his too-large coat did anything but enhance that image of frailty. No doubt a bystander would guess that the rather long bag he was carrying contained a painting, or perhaps some blueprints. The boy really did look every bit the nerdy type. And the poor kid was running full out as if being chased by something. Abruptly the boy spotted the rugged looking group and ground to a halt, panting and out of breath. A bystander would likely assume that the poor boy was soon to be robbed, or worse.

"I-i-i'm really sorry I'm late." Tobias Winters wheezed apologetically as he took a few moments to catch his breath. His cheeks burned with humiliation. It was first job and he was already screwing things up. Great.
Hmm.... Does anyone actually read these anyway?

"Calm down," said the lone feminine voice in the shadows. A shift in darkness may have been a pale hand raised in a gesture part halting, part calming. "This is your first time out, correct?" Her voice was calm, the Irish lilt not unkind. After all, they had all been in this young one's shoes, once.

The sapphire man Ansgar simply ground a heel into the concrete. "It's not like it matters. They ain't goin' nowhere."

Tobias nodded nervously as he rubbed he forcibly brought his breathing under control.

"Y-yes. It's my first time out." He managed to squeak out after a few moments. "but I probably won't be of much use."

The fingers of his right hand reflexively clenched and unclenched in odd ways, an obvious nervous tick.

"Then stay back a bit," Deirdre advised. "Not that you're useless- you obviously made it this far. But you'll last longer by building up to it. Let us do the heavy lifting. You back us up. All right?"

Tobias nodded again, his eyes downcast.

"S-s-so I should use the sniper rifle then?" As he said this he seemed to calm down a bit, his hand relaxed noticeably.

Pulling another draw of his cig, Rick looks over the lot of them. "I believe there may be a few more agents that are either getting set up or will join us on the hunt. A word of caution there is a Rank S demon out here tonight. I believe that the organization agreed to allow the boss out to hunt it, if you see him leave the area he is in. I don't need to remind you all that his special ability is that of a magic eater so we would be little more than normal people near him and therefor would be little help with his hunt. I don't expect we will be running across him as he is on the other side of the city but I figured I would mention it. Tobias, you set up on the roof of that building across the street. You two, double check your equipment and lets head into the tunnel." Rick points to indicate the underground railway. "Our current target is a den of werewolves."

"Aye, roger that," Deirdre replied. Her hands delved into the pockets of her long coat; inside pockets as well as exterior ones. Her tools of trade were simple, given what she worked with; salt, earth, wood, stone, herbs and plants. Things of that ilk. If one worked with the energies of nature, one's components must have emerged from that same earth, after all. "Ready."

"Good thing I packed the silver." Ansgar pulls out a curious looking pistol with four barrels, pulls out the current clip and loads a new one, then pulls back the lock. "This shouldn't take too long. A'ight, let's hit it."

"After we kick the nest, so to speak, we need to try and hold them because out here in the open they will be a lot more dangerous than down in there. Tobias will pick off the few that get past us as I have never seen a successful mission on a den without a few breaking through."
