Aha! Cohesion. 'Tis a beautiful thing.

Now that the story progressed a bit further the two pieces obviously fit together.

While there are lots of things happening, I think rather than more plot advancement what the story needs it some character development, in particular that of the intrepid thief, who is feeling like the protagonist of the tale. That's my two cents.
