Does it matter how you put two (or more) slices of bread together?

Yes. Even if the shape is generally the same all around, I like to have the top, bottom and sides matched up.

No. I just slap those bad boys together and get on with my life.

Depends. Only if the shape and position of the bread makes it imperative to put them together a certain way for particular kinds of sandwiches.

Putting two slices of bread together

Postby Mitera Nikkou » Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:52 am

Just some thought that came to mind. And I had nothing better to do than to make a poll about it.

Personally, I find myself lining the slices of bread up so they match without thinking. It always comes in handy with bread that is, or has become, asymmetrical.

It is of vital importance! If you do not line them up, the gods of bread shall become angered and punish us foolish mortals with horrible new breads. How did you think that sourdough came about?

The other day I was makin' me a sammich.

Know, ysee, problem were I had me only half a slice of a bagel to put it on, sposed ta the usual whole kit n kamoogle.

I thou' bout usin' bread instead, but I had only a slice o' tha as well.

Then I thou' bout havin' only a half a sammich, but I was mighty hungry.

So then I thou' bout havin' two half sammiches, but the thou' of the blighters bein' half empty afored I even took a bite just didn't sit ri' wi' me.

Ah hell, I thought, I'll just slap the bread on top o' the bagel an' eat the damn thing.

My life's been better ever since, crossgrain interracial sammichs make for a more diversified breakfast. Y'all need to let go o' your stringent preconceived notion of exactly what and how ya gotta make a sandwich.

You say that until an uncovered part of a sandwich makes a mess on you and you think, "I wish I had matched them up so everything would have been held into place." Still depends on the sandwich, though. It's kind of like how a burrito works. If you don't fold one end up you risk squeezing the contents out of the opposite end from where you're eating it from. Some things are just necessary because they make sense. Although it probably makes more sense to illustrate that with sub sandwiches. Depending on the contents, sometimes it's better to have one in two slices rather than having a wedge made in a single piece.

But I still voted for the first one simply because I do it out of habit or something. Must've been from all of the tuna sandwiches I've made. ^^;

The position of the breads don't bother me really. Unless I feel like being aggravating. Like the one time I asked for two bottom buns at Burger King.

Surprisingly, I got it my way. :P

I have to have it all lined up symmatrically. Then again, I like to make grilled cheese and so forth, and so doing keeps the sandwich from oozing apart while cooking.
