Some uninstalling and process problems

I decided to get rid of some stuff that I was sure that I didn't need, but I couldn't get rid of AOL when I tried to uninstall it. It gives me two things to click to uninstall, but I can't click them. Well, I can, and some stuff drops down for me to read, but I can't highlight them or anything, so I can't uninstall them since it's required that I choose one... -_- I tried to delete the folders, but the AOL folder in the Common files folder wouldn't let me delete it because of some .exe program. Why can't it just be click 'n' kill? Honestly.

Beyond that, I'd like to know how to get rid of some processes. My computer starts out with 60 of them running, and I know of several that I don't need. However, even when I end their processes, they will come back later. What do I have to do to get rid of them permanently?

Okay, quick rundown of Windows internal BS:

1. First place to look for uninstalling stuff is ALWAYS Add/Remove Programs, which you can easily find in the Control Panel.
2. Simply deleting the folder works, but you should try the above first.
3. If you seem to have problems with processes running in the background, the first place to check is Services. By default, it'll be under Adminstrative Programs (or something like that, IIRC) in the Control Panel. Services control the programs that automatically start with Windows (they're equivalent to UNIX daemons).
4. If all else fails, I always found killing the annoying process and quickly deleting the folder works.
5. If none of that works, surf the Internet for the program in question. Odds are SOMEONE's stumbled across this same problem.

Alright, I'll check services out. Doing more than ending a process is new to me. I finally managed to get rid of AOL Online... After three restarts... But now I have to nab AIM again. (The AOL Uninstall had check boxes, but they hadn't checked when I first tried them and assumed they weren't checkboxes. Turns out you have to click close in the middle of the checkbox to check it. ;/ )

I know. I was just mentioning the inconvenience of it all. Although I hope it's just AIM that I get... I can't remember if AOL Online came with this computer or if I got it when I got Triton AIM. I guess I'll have to see.
