Well... a lot of companies are leaving Windows 9x support behind, as it doesn't support a lot of the new technology. What's sad (from a developer's perspective) is that since Microsoft is deathly afraid of people checking out and possibly cloning their operating systems, it looks like the 9x line might be lost forever.

I noticed that when I switched to a free system. Suddenly, there are no "go out and buy this CD to upgrade your system" warnings going out; instead, if I want to upgrade my stuff, I just point the updating program at the right repositories. A far different view from the cash-central OS lines...
