Bah!

My main computer seems to have become infested with spyware. To the point that it doesn't allow me to do much of anything. So, what I'm wondering is if anyone here knows if theres a free spyware removing program I can download that will actually let me remove the stuff. I have ad aware 2007, but it keeps getting an error, and I lack the funds to buy the stuff windows recommends to remedy the problem.

Have you tried Spybot? I use that and Ad Aware.

hmm avg is good but the spyware portion isn't free.

skyware and adware are decent but not always the most efficient/best at least from personal experiance.

Get rid of Windows.

Okay, when I need to get rid of Windows spyware, I always use Spybot Search & Destroy. It catches practically everything. Also, AVG works great for viruses and is free.

Thanksforall the replys. I would try them, but it's gotten so bad that I can't even log onto my account. I may need to install the system all over. :cry:

I wonder if you can go into safe mode and delete the spyware manually. If you have so many to cause such a problem then finding enough to zap (if you can identify them) should be enough to get you enough leeway to use one of those programs. Not that I know what I'm talking about. <_<;

Hmmm, maybe I'll try safe mode tommorow. Didn't occur to me to try today. Hopefully that will get me somewhere. I may even be able to run the program I have in there without error.

Trying to delete spyware through Safe Mode won't work. I tried. These people know that a more competent computer user will try to track down their spyware programs, and so they hide them in the system. Sometimes the spyware will bury itself in the Windows registry to hide from you. Sometimes the spyware will regenerate if it finds missing libraries. I've seen many many tricks used, which is why I always suggest using Spyware Search & Destroy.

Well, other than having to reinstall, what other option is there, if the program is unavailable to him? Is it possible to use a program from one computer on another? I only used that remote control stuff once so I don't know what you're capable of doing with it. But I figured you might know, so...

If the system won't let you install stuff on it, either it's a locked-down work PC or the system is so fubar'd that reinstallation is pretty much the only option remaining. I had to use the reinstall method on my brother's computer because the virus had gotten right into Windows itself and the system rejected my LiveCD's. Sometimes, it's the only real option...
