Magical Sailor Fuku

Is there any reason for why my DVD/CD-RW drive isn't playing DVDs? It plays audio CDs just fine, but the DVDs just don't exist. It played DVD the other day, though, and this isn't the first time it has been "picky." I just don't understand what causes this.
