Uhm, please don't beat me, but I forgot why you have a party at 4th of July in the first place. It has something to do with liberty, hasn't it?

Independance Day. Its to celebrate America splitting off from England to become its own country. Basically, we are celebrating that our country was full of enough red necks who were smart enough to gun down a bunch of drunk mercenaries during a holiday.

It commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a document listing our grievences with our parent country of England, what we had done to peacefully resolve them, and our reasons for declaring our seperation.

Its a fairly arbitrary choice of day to celebrate, I'd suggest looking at wikipedia for more but it currently includes claims that the american revolution happened in the 12th Century.

as for Libby.. well Yeah it did. Everyone saw it coming.

Libby's yet another bad egg in the government, and Mr. Decider is the president, who's treating Libby all special while your average citizen has to deal with what sentences they're given, because they ofttimes don't have friends in high places. It's my opinion that the president is abusing his power here. I would think that it would only be warranted for correcting true injustice, not to give a pal an easier sentence.

To be fair, many presidents have done similar behavious, Clinton, Bush the Elder, etc. Those presidents however at least waited til their last few days to do such questionable acts.

Gerald Ford probably wins for the biggest political screw-up in pardoning, by pardoning Nixon. He defended the decision to his dying day.

Yeah...Bush has lost the last shread of human decency he had left. And it's not like he can be reelected.

No, he'll lose his last shred of human decency if something "happens to" come up during election time and he somehow manages to stay in office at least a little longer than he's supposed to by postponing the election until whatever situation has passed.

That's generally why they do it when they can't be reelected, so no matter how unpopular it can't hurt a thing. Now normally said president has a VP running and thus cares about his chances. Chenny of course will never stoop to mere presidency when he can be dark lord of suffering so he's not running.

I thought it was the fact that he would beat the record for quickest presidential death...

Cheney wouldn't try to become president unless it was in his best interests. Sure, the positions in government can afford people better vantages and resources for what matters to them, but they ultimately have more interest in other channels. Such as things dealing with money, and attaining more of it. It seems like a lot of people who get involved in politics use their positions as a means to an end, and that end has little to do with their civil duties, responsibilities and all that.
