Okay...

The past couple of days I've been given two books, one a world atlas and the other about ancient civilizations. But I ask you this: what need do I have for them when I have the Internet? XD Not to mention the History and Discovery networks. <_<;

First off, your internet may go down or you may have computer difficulties. Secondly, someone else may be using the computer when you want to look something up. Thirdly, sometimes you can't rely on what's said online. Anyone can write anything, really. Whereas print books need to be verified and what not, at least these days. Fact books such as those, anyway. Not to mention that a map in an Atlas is likely easier to look at, because it's probably bigger and you can see the whole thing at once. Besides, sometimes there's nothing like just having a book in your hands. If people just said "oh I don't need books, I have the internet," then books would become defunct and archaic. As a book lover, I would hate to see that come to pass.

All good points, except for the fact that I have my own computer and no one else but myself uses it. MINE~! XD

Other than that, with the exception of comic books, I can't get myself to read much in the way of books in general. My enthusiasm for them died a long time ago, although, before that, I had been more than an avid reader.

And these books are large and unwieldy, to boot. Each one must way ten pounds, at least. O.o; But... I suppose I could attempt to use them as bullet-absorbers if I should ever be targeted by an assassin. <_<

What if someone else's computer dies and you need to share until they get it fixed? Hey, it's possible.... And books like that are big and heavy, yes, but they're not made to carry around and take places with you. They're meant to be used in the location where they're kept. It's not the sort of book you carry along with you to read wherever you go.

My sister will keep her computer here while she's off at college, so there's an extra computer around. ;p Between my computer and my mother's, I can't really say whose would die first. I'd like to have confidence in my own computer, since the two that had died before this one were both mysterious and no fault of mine, but that doesn't mean that this one won't suffer from a mysterious death either, so... Still, an extra computer will be around. :D

Anyway, I rarely leave the house, so I have no need to take the books anywhere. It's just easier to read stuff on this monitor, rather than trying to find a comfortable way to handle one of those big suckers in my lap. (Triple entendre intended. ;p) I can't see any good way to read from them without having a table to sit at, and, while we do have a table, it's crowded with crafts and such, so... I'd just rather not cramp my neck by having to look down at my lap, or cramp my arms by holding the heavy things in a position where said neck won't cramp.

(Just as a somewhat-related side note, the only other people who use my computer, other than myself, are the cable technicians. This is due to the fact that my computer is with the router, where the cable line comes up from the floor, and I sit on a chair instead of lay on a bed (as my mother does). But I find it amusing since most of the letters on my keyboard are worn away and most of the tech guys can't use my keyboard as it is.)
