Surprise Quartet

*Aurora vaults into the ring a moment later, looking )(#$%ed as all get out. Callista has just enough time to mutter "Oh, crudbunny" before Aurora strikes her at full strength with the flat side of her sword, launching her into the ring ropes.*

*Callista looks for a moment as if she's going to faint there on the spot (and very nearly does), but she forces herself to roll out of the ring and tag Lavarro in passing.*

Callista: She's all yours, Lavarro. Try not to lose; I've got a trick or two left in me, but I'd prefer not to use them if I can avoid it.

"You'll have to tell me how you avoided fainting from zat sometime," says Lavarro before getting up in the ring. He decides to start out defensively, raising his arms and producing a shining dome-shaped barrier in front of himself.

*Lavarro's decision was the right call, as Aurora's Sacred Sword comes to a screeching halt on the dome's surface. This stalls her concentration just enough that her opponent may be able to sneak an attack in.*

Lavarro makes a kind of wave-like motion with his hands and jumps up, summoning a miniature wave about the width of the ring from behind him heading toward the general direction of his opponent, before jumping up on top of it and surfing along with it until it 'crashes' against the ropes on the other side.

*Aurora's eyes widen before the wave crashes into her, bowling her over and ending up on her right side.*

Aurora: *to herself* This is getting me nowhere fast...

*She forces herself to her feet after the wave recedes, using her sword for support, then reaches up and detaches both pauldrons off her armor before tossing them harmlessly out of the ring. Already, she seems to be moving easier.*

*A few steps away from where she exited the ring, Callista---looking every inch the irritated, sopping wet Delcatty---grabs a minnow that landed in one ear and quickly puts it out of its misery.*

Perhaps taking a cue from one of Callista's moves earlier, Lavarro chooses this moment to run a hand through his hair with a winning grin and say something in French. It's not exactly clear what he said to anyone who doesn't know the language, but something about the way he says it sounds like a very kind complement.

*Aurora starts to wind up for a Night Slash, but abruptly stops before she can execute the technique, looking mildly caught off guard and...blushing? Guess she doesunderstand French.*

Aurora: That's... that's very nice of you, but... ergh, I'm sorry. I must do this!

*Re-attempting her Night Slash, Aurora's willingness to fight---and by extension, her attack strength---seems to have taken a hit. She seems to be using the attack for its increased Critical rate than anything else.*

Lavarro takes a hit, but it doesn't seem like it affected him too much thanks to the attack drop. He takes advantage of not being knocked back by the attack by jumping at her in an attempt to bite anywhere available.

Research indicated this should have a 1/8 chance, so I rolled random.org 1 to 8, with 1 being "get critical hit", and got a 4.))

*Having a bit of a speed advantage thanks to her earlier Autotomize, Aurora is able to dance out of the way. With a rapid series of slashes and jabs that hit nothing but air but serve to bolster her flagging fighting spirit, she starts to feel more into the fight than she'd been earlier.*

Running out of unique dark-type moves to use, Lavarro has to take this turn to sniff the air again, regaining the ability to use his native type on Aurora's ghost form again.

*Aurora takes the opportunity to channel energy into her sword, causing it to shine. Upon doing so, she charges back into range and swings with the intent of delivering super-effective damage.*

Lavarro tries to get out of the way of the slash, but takes most of it anyway, a bunch more cut fur fluttering around the arena. He recoils a bit from the hit, clearly not shrugging this one off like he has others. He recovers fairly quickly, yelling and making a reckless tackle at his opponent before she can back off.

*Aurora isn't able to avoid it this time, and even through the armor its clear she felt that one. She staggers back and lands on her tailbone, exhales heavily after a moment, then stands back up and sheathes her sword.*

Aurora: I've done the math, and it's all or nothing. *gets into a ready stance* Care for one more shot, Mr. Lavarro?

Lavarro runs a hand through his head-hair again. "Well, if you insist." He moves his arms to a kind of fighting stance and starts glowing faintly white, and when the time seems right he rockets straight at his opponent in an all-out attack.

*Aurora meets his charge halfway, slamming her head with full force into Lavarro when he gets close enough. It's doubtful whether or not this will be enough to overcome his attack, though.*
