The two seem surprised to be suddenly streaming across the roofs, to say the least. Logos's legs go to wrap around Mendo's to try and make him trip!

The demons seem to mostly ignore her, except for the occasional oogle from male ones, and the occasional female. Taking flight feels... wow, like coming home, like a fish diving into sea after a life on land. It just feels right.

[Ya know what? To heck with text colors. I'm done with that shiz, yo~]

Marcia couldn't help but laugh a little at the feeling of flight. She ends up doing a few loops and dives, getting even more of a feel of flying. "This feels so amazing!"

The doctors and nurses begin to operate, working to tend to the mercenary's wounds.

Blaze wrote:The boys eyes sparkle at the tech's words. "Yeah! Like you and those soldiers outside, right?"

Doctor Serena smiles at the boy. "You could say that. But we were all once like you, you know. Strength comes from inside yourself." She pats him on the shoulder. "You should be fine."

Rising to her feet, she turns to the parents. "The children seem fine, if a little worse for wear. We'll check you out now, and then you can be on your way. Arrangements for lodging are already being made," she assures them.

Blaze wrote:"Not my call." the nun says, sounding oddly lucid despite the drugs. Seems that has been drilled into her.

The lieutenant nods, and rises to her feet. "Interesting..." She switches to her cybernetic comm.

The meme is definitely deep-rooted, as it was with the others. We can test for the presence of other drugs or magical influence, but it's likely to be the same results as before.

Very well. We've had a request by the CICF. Given the prevalence and durability of the meme, they would like to examine the subjects.

The CICF? The lieutenant pauses, glances at the drugged nuns, and then nods. Very well. We'll arrange for transport immediately.

She motions to the guards, and they begin helping the groggy nuns to their feet, escorting them out to an armored vehicle waiting nearby. The rest of the troops remain tense, warily watching the roadblocks and the skies for any possible sign of intervention, before the armored convoy finally departs, heading further into Academy City, towards the massive concrete fortification at its heart -- the Color Isolation and Containment Facility.

Blaze wrote:"Grabgrabgrab~! I can blast the bad guys and draw attention with clones!" Alex says, hopping from one foot to the other impatiently.

Abel nods at Mendo and Alex. "I will stay and offer what support I can to Alex. Let me know if you need any assistance, however."

She keeps a watchful eye on Alex as she goes to distract the demons... however, she does glance in Mendo's direction as he departs with the two women, wondering if even his ninja skills will be enough to keep a grip on two trained exorcists...

Blaze wrote:SHould the CTC conduct the search, they would likely receive several hits on off world paranatural-fighting families, and assuming that they are arranged by number of hits, they might not notice or find relevant the few scraps they have on Blaze's family. The information they had would likely only have a few comments on how she ran away from them and has a low opinion of them in general.

Information warfare is one of the fields that the CTC prides itself in, with massive computers and AIs assigned to assist the talented humans undertaking the mammoth project of filtering through the enormous quantity of data that they acquire from their satellites, drones, and other information-gathering methods. Of course, there are still limitations to what they know, as there are areas over which they have limited coverage (such as the western continent), and very little information trickles in regarding anything in pocket worlds or other universes that haven't made themselves known.

Still, the information about Blaze's family does start to bubble to the surface, due in part to the current interest in rescuing Jean and Logos and their possible knowledge about the fifth column. Of course, seeing as Blaze ran way from them, and has a low opinion of them... a tentative theory starts to form. Could they have been involved in the current chaos?

The doctors work efficiently, focused on their work of treating the man's wounds! Once complete, he's kept sedated for the time being, moved to a secured part of the hospital under armed guard.

Blaze wrote:The boy hops off the chair and goes outside! The father smiles gratefully at the woman and lets his wife go first. "Thank you doctor." she says gratefully

The guards keep a watchful eye on the boy to ensure he doesn't get into trouble, while the doctor nods at the woman. "It is our pleasure, ma'am," Doctor Serena says, before beginning her examination of the mother. "This must be a trying time for you and your family."

Blaze wrote:The nuns follow along with the soldiers, entering the vehicle willingly.

The armored transport makes its way through the quiet streets of Academy City, escorted by a pair of HMMWVs. After a few minutes of driving, it finally arrives at the massive granite outer wall of the CICF, still engraved with the names of those who died in the nuclear strike on the Sand Academy. The convoy pauses at the gate, the gun turrets carefully trained on the vehicle until permission is granted for them to enter. The massive doors open, and the vehicles drive inside, the ride becoming a bit bumpy as they cross the desolate zone that was previously an irradiated wasteland, and before that a school for girls and the surrounding community. Finally, they arrive at the enormous concrete and still fortification of the Color Isolation and Containment Facility itself. The vehicles pull into a garage just inside the entrance, the guards positioning themselves to cover the prisoners as they exit the vehicle.

A moment later, however, a young girl with silvery hair arrives, flanked by a pair of guards. She looks over the transport, and nods. "Welcome to the CTC's Color Isolation and Containment Facility," the girl says to the nuns. "My name is Eva, and am in charge of the facility. Please follow me."

Blaze wrote:As the CTC's impressive information-searching architecture finds this little lead and starts following it, it finds little information within this dimension. But, if it can extend it's search to other dimensions...

Finding little in the massive databanks of information on Muffinville and its environs, those handling the search for information start broadening their search. Many might be surprised at the amount of information that the CTC have on other worlds, universes, and dimensions, but they do hold repositories of data on such things, and begin searching through them for more information...

As the search broadens, it starts finding hits for a family called the Cadwaladers. In a universe where paranormal activity is an accepted way of life, the Cadwaladers are a historic name. In the Middle Ages, when dealing with paranormal entities was a purely religious field, dealt with with prayers, chants and blessed weapons, Aeron Cadwalader was an alchemist in Great Britain who discovered that certain flowers, herbs and minerals had effects on a ghost that roamed his vegetable garden. He began testing various natural materials on the supernatural, cataloging their effects on different kinds of entities and using this knowledge to exorcise spirits for a fee much cheaper than what the Church offered. They tried to squelch him proclaiming his methods as blasphemous and ineffective, but unfortunately, the printing press had been invented. Aeron was able to get a book printed detailing methods of paranormal defense anyone could do and became very wealthy.

He bought some land, invited his scattered family to live there and join him in his research, hiring mercenaries to test their findings on more dangerous entities, such as vampires and werewolves. Some of these mercenaries married into the family eventually, and martial training became something of a tradition. They invested their considerable capital into the advancement of science, being a big player in the creation of guns, explosives and modern gardening techniques. TO this day, the Cadwaladers are still a wealthy family, with many of them showing up in the military, police, sciences and paranormal investigators.

The reason these facts might show up is because there is a news story from a few years back talking about how the Cadwalader Manor which houses the main family was apparently in an uproar. Rumors of one child fleeing, millions of dollars stolen, nothing concrete and no follow-up story, but it ties in with Blaze's apparent history...

Demons? Food delivery to orphans?

Well... Abel is still sitting overwatch as Alex was supposedly going to distract the demons. If it looks like the demons are going to steal food from poor hungry orphans, perhaps it's time to put the fear of science into those punks...

Blaze wrote:The mother gives a tired, relieved sigh to the doctor. She shows signs of some malnutrition and physical exhaustion, nothing some good meals and bedrest won't fix.

"Yes, but at least it's over..."

The doctor nods, making notes on her datapad. The malnutrition is worrisome, and indicates that circumstances within Muffinville are worse than had been expected. She makes a note that the family should receive a tailored diet at the beginning, to help their bodies readapt to eating a properly balanced diet and ensure they don't suffer complications. Once satisfied that the examination of the mother is complete, she turns to the father. "Last one..."

Blaze wrote:The nuns endure the ride mostly silently, some offering up prayers. When the transport stops, they all step out in a line, keeping heads bowed and lips moving in silent prayers.

The young girl with silver hair notes the behavior of the nuns, and after a moment, simply shrugs. "Very well. Follow me."

Leading the way, she begins to walk deeper into the facility. Four of the guards accompany the nuns, two in the lead with the girl, and two following behind. The halls they walk through seem somewhat grim, the walls made of some kind of well-armored material, interrupted periodically by firewalls to help isolate portions of the facility in case the containment were to be breached. Occasionally they pass through areas that seem more populated, with scientists and soldiers mingling in the halls, laboratories occasionally visible through bulletproof glass. But for the most part, much of the facility seems to be devoted to machinery of some kind.

As they approach the center, they find their path taking them through larger chambers, following catwalks that hang over massive machines. Assuming a minimal amount of sensitivity towards spiritual and magical energies remains in the nuns, despite their exposure to the AFC2 compound, they will start to feel an intense surge of energy in this area. Specifically... beige energy. The Color Isolation and Containment Facility is built over what was once the Sand Academy, after all, and the enormous groundswell of beige energy that the Academy served to contain remains. As the group proceeds deeper and deeper into the facility, the intensity of the energy continues to build... first a faint tingling in the background... then a steady flow... and finally, it begins to feel like an incredible torrent of energy, the nuns feeling rather like pebbles in a rushing river as they're engulfed and surrounded by the flow of energy through the area. While likely lacking any technical knowledge, depending on their sensitivity they may be able to tell that this flow of energy isn't entirely natural -- the beige upwelling from the ground would normally spill outwards over the surrounding community, but instead, the enormous machines the CTC have constructed here keep it contained, focusing it inwards, instead. The machines are constructed as a hollow ring, focusing the intense levels of beige energy onto a single point located at their center -- the heart of the Color Isolation and Containment Facility.

It is here that they find themselves being brought, to a massively armored chamber located within the inner ring of the machines. Eva pauses before a hatchway, a simple control panel with a red and a green light at its side, before she turns to the nuns, a slight smile on her face.

"From what I understand, you are women of faith. Are you prepared to face the challenges that lie within... to come face to face with true divinity?" she asks.

(( "guns, explosives, and modern gardening techniques"! :P ))

The articles on the Cadwaladers lie within the titantic repositories of data held by the CTC, largely unnoticed and unheeded... until a certain correlation is discovered, a high probability that the child who fled the family correlates closely to the individual known as Blaze, already a person of interest to the CTC, particularly due to Blaze's connection in turn to Jean and Logos. As the search algorithms follow up on the correlation, the significance of the data increases upon discovery of the Cadwaladers historic connection to fighting the paranormal. Were they somehow connected to the incidents in Muffinville? While angels and demons were a bit of a far cry from ghosts, vampires, and werewolves, a hypothesis is speculated -- that somehow the incidents were connected to the Cadwaladers, particularly if Blaze was, in fact, the child who had fled. Those watching over the programs note the development of this hypothesis, and begin searching for more information -- both trying to ascertain more details about Blaze's history, particularly when he started to become noticed within Muffinville, as well as the current status of the Cadwalader family and their philosophies.

Meanwhile....

In the back alleys outside Muffinville's Chibi district a low moan echoed through the abandoned corridors, far emptier now since the gangs of supernaturals swept in to the place...

While most of the city's Chibi had fled further underground to wait out the raging storm, reports of black-garbed mini-folk (in other words, the Chibiwanbanshu) patrolling the district's borders circulated through the faction's camps. Whether or not the diminutive ninja were acting under orders of the reclusive Lord Bones or the district's leaders and politicians had not been determined by this point. Irregardless of alignment their opposition to both Fourth Choirs and Deep Southerners was fierce to behold! Although the handful of Chibi defenders lacked the heavy firepower and numbers to pose such a threat to the gang's holdings (compared to the CTC, ninja villages, or the Exorcists) their use of guerrilla warfare tactics, booby traps, and artificial fog within the narrow corridors and back alleyways had taken out a fair number of interlopers who had ventured too far into Chibi territory.

Nonetheless, the sizable homeless population that thrived on the outskirts of the city had almost certainly posed a temptation to gang members hoping to bolster their ranks. Unlike the Chibi or the PCs elsewhere within the city, the drifters and vagrants had no means of defending themselves from the onslaught of supernatural. While some had fought bravely with tooth and nail, in the end the majority of them had been claimed by either side leaving the region eerily quiet....

Or at least it would have been if not for the mysterious noises that have been heard in the narrows. Their have been reports of strange things occurring in the slums. Could the Chibiwanbanshu be plotting an offense? Is this the work of some other player? Or is the constant harassment by diminutive ninja starting to take its toll on the invading scouts?

You'll just have to find out.... o.o;;

Doctor Serena chuckles at the man's cheeky suggestion, although most of her attention is focused upon the scans. She notes the symptoms of malnutrition and exhaustion similar to the rest of his family, but frowns slightly as the scanner detects the anomalous symptoms of the infection. She starts adjusting the devices of the scanner, attempting to get a clearer reading on the nature of the infection -- particularly whether it would be biological, nanotechnological, thaumaturgical, or some other paranormal-based anomaly. One of the NBC-suited techs idly passes between the man and his family, carefully positioning himself to shield them if necessary, while a guard near the door casually shifts his position, bringing his electrolaser to bear on the man, just in case.

Eva smirks slightly at that. "Oh, I wouldn't dream of it," she murmurs, before glancing at the panel adjacent to the door, using her electromancer powers to toggle the electronic switch within. A loud klaxon rings out, warning lights mounted around the hatchway flashing as it begins to open with a massive groan. The door proves to be quite ponderous, perhaps several tons in weight, as it swings open... until it finally lurches to a stop. Eva motions for the nuns to enter, and once the assembled group of nuns has walked inside, toggles the switch again, the door closing with the same massive and ponderous weight as it opened, until it finally closes with the hiss of a hermetic seal.

The intensity of the beige energy here is enormous, although it seems to have none of its usual effects upon the women. At one point in the past, this was the office of the school council president of the Sand Academy, before it was annihilated in a ball of nuclear fire. The ruins and wreckage have long since been carted off, the irradiated waste processed down into its atomic components by nanomachines. Supposedly, the Chibi made an effort to pacify the tormented souls of the hundreds who died in the nuclear blast, although rumors of ghosts and hauntings still linger -- but the dedicated efforts of the CTC's memeticists prevent such rumors from appearing within the CICF itself.

Still, the chamber itself is relatively featureless, a large, empty, armored space... except for an armored hatch upon the floor. Once the room has been securely sealed, the hatchway opens with a hiss of steam, and then rises upwards -- revealing a stasis container, somewhat larger than a human. Stencilled upon the container is the word 'SAVIOR'.

Within, floats an angel.

Blaze wrote:The CTC search uncovers scattered, incomplete reports of Blaze's activities. It seems the Exorcists request that their clients not observe their exorcisms. They may have files on how she became a young woman, making a wish on Dichotomy that resulted in Alex gaining a human form. As for the Cadwaladers, they continued on in what they did after Blaze's supposed absconding. No police report was filed, nor any bounty placed on the wayward son's head...

Connections begin to form.

The Cadwalader family seems like something of a dead end -- it is considered an oddity that they show pretty much no reaction to the acrimonious departure of Blaze from the family, particularly considering Blaze's poor opinion of them, but it could be within the tolerances for human behavior. However, other elements of their past begin to tie in with other reports contained within the CTC's massive databanks.

In particular, the comments of a mercenary soldier, who stated that his employer was the heir of a family involved in fighting supernatural menaces, and provided them with ammunition effective against supernatural entities. Guns, explosives, and modern gardening techniques? one of the AIs notes wryly.

The search begins anew, this time focusing more upon what little may be known of the Cadwaladers and their techniques. Mercenaries are listed as having married into the family, so they would certainly appear to have no qualms in utilizing such agents. Blaze travelled to Muffinville from his original birthplace, so others may have easily followed. If consistencies can be found between the tactics and equipment used by the mysterious "third faction" and the Cadwaladers, then this may provide useful information as to their logistics and tactics, although the issue of motive still remains a question. If the hypothesis of the "third faction" instigating the war is correct, then why?

Certainly, if the hypothesis proves true, then it makes located Blaze and her associates all the more important... since they are likely the only ones who could shed light upon the motivations of the third faction...
