The Muffinville Horror

Postby Blaze » Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:47 pm

The old mansion had a name once, but now it's just 'the old mansion.' It was built back in the colonial days by one Arthur Manifold, the owner of the First Bank of Muffinville. Throughout the construction, tragedy would befall the workers. A man fell into a concrete mixer head first, another tripping and falling eye-first on a loose nail. The mansion was eventually completed, but not without the blood of 13 dead men and 24 injured men soaking the ground.

Even after the mansion was completed, strange things would happen in it. Maids would report sudden strong winds blowing up their skirts, leading to accusations of sexual harassment. The plumbing would never work right, even after multiple experienced plumbers uncovered no problems with it. Arthur Manifold started to lose his mind, saying that he could feel something sucking on his pinky finger. This led him to growing it out and filing it down to a razor edge. One day, he fell down the stairs and landed on that nail. It pierced his heart, killing him instantly. The staff reported hearing the sound of wood breaking, like the stairs had given way, but no damage was found.

Having no heirs, the bank took ownership of the property. Over the years, the deed has traded many hands as people have brought it to live in, or convert into some kind of business. It has experienced time as a finishing school, a college dorm, a casino, an art museum and even a Chinese restaurant. Each one would have strange and usually grisly events until the mansion was once again abandoned.

However, the deed has traded hands once more, and the new owner has taken steps to avoid similar things happening. Before even trying to renovate, she hired the Exorcists to enter the mansion and sanctify it entirely. That... was two days ago. They went in, but have not yet come out...

However, some residents of Muffinville have starting receiving letters from them. They are all rather similar, having been scrawled in a hurry, pleading that they please come to the mansion. Not only that, but a radio signal has been coming from the mansion, playing a single message on loop. It's rather garbled, but Blaze's voice can be heard, rather panicky, asking for anyone to come to the mansion.

It's getting late now, the moon hanging high and full in the sky... even those who got neither a letter, nor picked up the radio signal might find themselves being drawn to the mansion... the tension hangs thick in the air. Something big will happen tonight.

Matt walked up to the Mansion gates and stopped, staring up at it with a grin. He was in his late teens, with an athletic build and short brown hair. He wore a black hooded top and dark grey combat pants, with heavy boots, and had a back pack over his shoulder. Despite not believing in the supernatural, he'd heard the stories of recent disappearances, and felt it was time to show the amateurs how it was done. In his hand was a note, not addressed to him, but to one of Blaze's friends, and he scrunched it up, tossing it over his shoulder before making his way inside.

Bones glares up at the manor, his right hand clutching tightly to a parcel of sea salt. Earlier that day his minions had picked up the garbled distress call coming from the place and of the scrawled letters that had been circulating throughout the city.

His goal was clear. Quickly amassing an assortment of trinkets and herbs held sacred by Chibi shamans the criminal mastermind made haste to investigate the disappearance of the Exorcists. True he had little to gain by performing a rescue mission, especially since the troubled party was just a bunch of goody-two-shoes who had troubled him in the past. However Blaze was HIS arch nemesis and he was not going to let some damn ghost do her in before he could. :x

Adjusting his bowler hat he walked up to the doorstep, paying little heed to Matt.

Ignoring those entering via the front... Dact... who is hoping for both a chance to be a hero and to explore a potentially dangerous mansion... arrives from the rear! Climbing the wall if there is one... and looking around the backyard! For a rear entrance!
O Muse!

Of that man skilled in all the ways of contending,
A wanderer, harried for years on end...

Usagi makes her way up to the mansion and takes a look around the front. The whole thing sounded a bit iffy, but she had gotten word that her fellow Exorcists had gone missing, and so she figured it best to try and figure out what happened. "Hm... definitely a weird feeling about this place..."

She gave the others who arrived a small nod in acknowledgement.

The quartet arrive at the gate which is boldly pushed open by Matt! Despite being old and rusted, it swings open without complaint. Those who might examine the hinges would note that they smell of oil... seems someone lubricated them recently.

Whoever it was though, they didn't bother to try and make the lawn more presentable. The grass was tall and thick, coming up to their waists with a cracked asphalt road leading up to the mansion proper. The house, made of wood and brick doesn't exactly look safe, but it's been standing this long right? The mouldy wooden steps leading up to the front door and flanked by two sturdy collapsible lamps on tall stands, their heads rotated to shine on the stairs. They are connected to a petrol generator which is still chugging away with many wires leading from it into the open doors...

Dact, ever the noncomformist, finds a gap int he fence! Climbing it might not have been a good idea, considering the rusty sharp points at the tip of each pole, but anyway. He finds himself in the vast backyard, the grass just as tall as the front! He finds himself up to his waist in the stuff, with the mansion before him... looks like it'll be quite the walk. But if he decides not to looks there, he may notice what looks like a hedge maze to his right, one that has gone a long time with no gardener, and to his left, some kind of stone structure, covered in moss.

"Spooky." Usagi muttered a little as she took in the surroundings of the place as she walked along the path towards the doors. As she did, she cast out her senses to see if she could feel anything OTHER than the others that she saw, her ears giving a small twitch as they shift into a pair of rabbit ears. With that, it would be easier to hear.

Coming to the open doors, Usagi sticks her head in and looks around.

Dact is consigned to his long walk! Hedge mazes werent really his thing... but on the other hand... that mysterious stone structure looks promising! Or it could be a fancy garden shed. Well one way to find out! He wanders in for a closer look...

Matt didn't seem pleased there were others, trying to solve the mystery of the mansion. Giving them a look of disdain, he ventured away from the group, pulling a flashlight from his back pack and switched it on, shining it around the grand entrance hall of the house, exploring all the possible different paths he could take!

Coming to the open doors, Usagi sticks her head in and looks around.

Depending on just how good Usagi's hearing is, she may hear a myriad of sounds. Electrical buzzing from within the mansion, indicating the presence of more lights and generators. The sound of someone running around in the backyard perhaps. But as for inside the mansion itself, she hears nothing indicating that something living might be inside. Not even rats or insects...

Approaching the stone structure, ivy crawling up the walls of it... except around the entrance. From the looks of things, the rusted iron gate was forced open a while back. Another outdoor light hooked up to a small generator lies inside, revealing coffins in the wall... a mausoleum! Further inside, Dact can see a flight of stone stairs, leading down...

Stepping inside, Matt can see that... his flashlight isn't terribly necessary! The hall has been lit up with many collapsible lamps in key locations. They don't chase away the gloom that seems to pervade the place, but at least it's well lit. The entrance hall is two stories tall, a grand staircase leading up to the second floor on the wall to his right. A balcony serves as the entrance to the second floor. But here on the first floor, there is a door to his right, in the same wall as the stairs are attached to, two on his left, one closer to the front door and one further away. A grand set of double doors stands right before him.

Kether wrote:*he enters after the rest looking for some method of going down.. and for angel statues obviously*

The machine sees the same things Matt does, but no angel statues to be seen.

Dact rubs his chin. "Lets see... explore the main mansion that likely has everyone's attention... or a creepy mausoleum I just discovered on my own." Dact grins. "Exploration it shall be!" He says... getting out a lantern and heading down said stone stairs!

Usagi looks around for a moment as she enters and moves carefully, heading down a random path as she taps the wrist band she was holding for a moment. Though she didn't do anything more with that and kept her eyes open.

With a nod Bones finishing the calculations needed to conduct a Chibi ritual of divination; the sacred arts of the Chibi shaman require strict precision and careful measurement. Noting the lack of screams from those fools who barged on in the mastermind deduces that it is safe enough to enter.

Stepping into the hallway Bones first goes make a clearing within the center of the room, making certain to move furniture, carpeting and debris from the floor. The next step will require sufficient space. Assuming he is successful on this first step of many he now begins to hastily scribble a massive circle in the floor.

Those observing the circle might notice that it looks somewhat similar to a Tibetan mandala. Those knowledgeable in the obscure ways of the Chibi shaman, however, will know that it is in fact a map depicting the Dream Realm of the Chibi, that bizarre ethereal expanse that stretches the subconsciousness of the Chibi collective.

Strange squiggles representative of flying serpents and migratory souls line the outer ring while at the center burns a furious alien sun. And of course, beyond the dream realm and relatively new to the cosmology lies the underworld with its obsidian temples....
