"Stahndahd proceduhs an' all dat."

"And if you two don't mind, we'd appreciate it if we didn't have any gawkers, we're nervous enough as is."

Ah, so... You haven't figured anything out yet?

We just want to see if can help out. You understand.

Anonymouse wrote:As the CTC go about their efforts to contain the abductions, investigate the disappearances, and aid the family's escape, many continue to disappear. However, there are no signs to anything that may catch their attention, as their surveillance keeps getting interrupted at random points in the day as well.

A breakthrough occurs at the residence Monocle-Face happens to be investigating, as all too suspicious SUVs burst onto the scene, and unload a mob of sketchy 'agents' to confront him. Running tags yields no results for matches in their databases, indicated SOMETHING must be up with the McSketchy Mob.

How exciting!

Well! Since just being vague isn't getting the CTC anywhere, they develop a specific plan to implement before the next evening!

With a full model of the city of Muffinville and its population, they identify the neighbourhoods in which the disappearances are occuring, and select a few of the families that are predicted to disappear in the next evening! At which point, the CTC begins to move their forces out en masse.

Armored infantry fighting vehicles and HMMWVs with heavy weapon turret mounts begin rolling down the suburban streets of Muffinville, intending to stake out the next familiar that are predicted to disappear. Will the police protest? Oh, quite possibly, but as noted -- the CTC now have PR agents standing by their phones, just waiting to deal with irate administrators who want to play turf wars over things like "jurisdiction" when people's lives are in danger!

As for a certain group of suspicious SUVs... one of the CTC's HMMWV's pulls up nearby, and a woman with long silvery hair in an officer's uniform steps out. Glancing over the sketchy 'agents', she walks over to the nearest one. "Excuse me... I am Special Adjutant Abel, with the CTC. May I ask what you are doing?"

Alex thoroughly cases the joint, to use her words. She pokepokes at the lined up pes, looks at the broken appliances and rubs her chin.

"Hmmmmm~! The kitties and doggies an' stuff are all sleepy and lines up! But everything is brooooken... why? There's no signs of anyone gettin' hurt... En-tree-ging!"

With that, she exits the house and goes to the one across the street to see if it's the same story there!

Exiting the house, Alex may see Yoko and Ookalf conversing with the cops outside--but cops don't stop her from getting to the house across the way, which is largely in the same condition.

So, Alex has found that:

a) The abductors like tearing up houses.
b) Don't like pets.
c) Like doing the same boring thing over and over again!

The cops frown at the pair. Eventually, one sighs and shakes his head.

"I...don't see how it could hurt, it's bad enough that some of the posted cops have been disappearing too."

The other nods.

"Ya see, the proublem is dat when we post autha caups, dey go missin' too!"

Giving a shrug, the first cop continues.

"Yeah, that's what's got us all nervous about...this. I mean, not to mention how widespread it is."

Barring immediate reply from Monocle-Face, the McSketchy Mob of Agents grow slightly uneasy when the HMMWV drives up and offloads the unusual looking lady. Several of the suited agents immediately reach for holsters in their jackets while a woman holds a hand up, stopping Abel from advancing any further.

"Excuse me ma'am, I'm going to need some papers from you. This has become a serious event which I am not permitted to disclose any details about. We're already dealing with one guy right now-- *motions to Monocle Face* --and we'd rather not have any more trouble today."

As the woman does this, a nearby agent starts talking into a microphone--apparently calling for backup. Police sirens can be heard in the distance, drawing closer.

****

Meanwhile, the calls of protest start coming into the CTC PR hotlines, as several government agencies and private groups call with all manner of grievances and injustices due to the military presence of the CTC. Many of them are easy enough to handle, but perhaps the most unusual is the absence of any agency or group relating to the suited agents which Adjutant Abel was sent to investigate. Or the fact that dispatch vehicles that don't seem to be connected to any of the other government systems are storming in her direction...

After finding more of the same in the house across the way, Alex whips out a notebook and pen and begins writing.

"So! The baddies take the people by surpriise, maybe using sleeping gas~? Then they line up the animals, smash up their stuff and take the people away! Now! I must perform a steak out!" @__@

Stepping back outside, she makes some fancy hand signs and in several poofs of pink smoke, she is surrounded by Alex clones!

"Hoookay! Everyone scatter and find a house that's in the pattern but hasn't been evacuated or had everyone ab-duck-ted yet!" @____@
"OOOOOOOKAY!"

Everyone in the neighborhood is treated to the sight of a stampede of Alexes heading in all directions!

Ooh, that does sound bad...

Yeah... So, you haven't found any... thing...?

*Yoko stares past the cops and toward the crowd of Violet clones.* ...That was unexpected.

Abel offers the woman a winning smile, tossing her head a bit to send the long silvery hair swirling about her, before she reaches into her uniform and pulls out a badge with photo of herself and identification indicating her to be a Special Adjutant within the CTC.

"Why, certainly! Just tell me which papers you require!" She motions to one of the other soldiers -- one wearing some somewhat intimidating-looking environmentally-sealed full body armor -- and he steps forward, to offer her a digital pad. "Wireless communications linked with digital reproduction of paperwork has made it so efficient to provide such things. Simply let me know which papers are needed!"

****

The CTC's own PR agents go to work! Assisted with the CTC's variety of AI programs, they do their best to smoothly handle the complaints, diplomatically apologizing for any inconveniences and offering to do whatever they can to help make the various government and private groups' own operations proceed more smoothly -- logistical assistance, coordinated efforts, and so on. After all, they all have the public's best interests at heart, and this is hardly the time to be squabbling, is it?

Of course, there is the old adage that "information has power", and the CTC follows that adage wholeheartedly. High-altitude Skywatch drones monitor vehicular activity across the city, and with the assistance of the ubiquitous AI support cross-reference vehicle operations with known governmental and other agency vehicles. Finding that the vehicles approaching the position of Abel's group, the computers start working feverishly to try and trace and identify the vehicles.

While doing that, however, they do pass the relevant information along to Abel and her team. While the adjutant simply waits for the woman's response, her escort does start to glance casually in the direction of the approaching vehicles...

As the tall man speaks, a woman to his right speaks into a wrist mounted mic quietly, intoning that a situation has arisen. Looks like reinforcements are the way, as several of the agents begin reaching for firearms hidden in chest-holsters withing their jackets.

"I seee... well in that case I suppose I'll just have to-" Dact grabs the nearest agent, and goes to throw him at the second nearest agent! Getting into a brawl with the gun wielding men... his monocle never being dislodged!
O Muse!
Sing in me, and through me tell the story
Of that man skilled in all the ways of contending,
A wanderer, harried for years on end...
