You are so insensitive... *Yoko shakes her head as she Ookalf walk onto the scene of the latest disappearances.*
Though... We don't know that it's not aliens, do we? *Yoko shoots Ookalf a look.* What? It's a fair question.

Abductions are hardly an unusual thing--People disappear, loved ones are contacted and informed that for a generally large sum of money that the abductee can be freed, free of harm. Sometimes, however, these abductions and their exchanges don't follow these patterns. Sometimes, they are more unusual. Abnormal.
In the suburbs of Muffinville, entire families have begun to disappear in the dark of the night, one after another after another--systematically, right down the streets, through neighborhoods, and through apartment blocks. What started as an odd occurrence has turned into a wave of terror, as households attempt to flee before they too disappear.
...Only on the eve before they flee, they too vanish, as though their timing was foreseen. Investigations have sprung up all over but to no avail. As if an NPC could hope to solve these crimes!
Who will solve this mystery and bring peace back to the suburbs of Muffinville?

As entire families begin to disappear, the CTC does what they can to help -- although with the NPC police and the like involved, they can't move too openly yet. However, the number of drones wandering the streets of Muffinville increases noticably, particularly in areas that the mysterious abductors seem to be active in. They do what they can to monitor heat signatures and activity in the surrounding houses... with sensors specially tuned to any supernatural energies, and even the gravitational fluctuations caused by teleportation.
The CTC also make an effort to broadcast an offer to assist any families that may want to evacuate to locations that are potentially safer and more secure, such as Academy City, including an offer to provide troops and vehicles to help families that want to move the same day -- rather than to have to wait through the night and potentially disappear.

Anonymouse wrote:The abductors' pattern has been preeetty straightforward so far!
Step 1: Abduct family
Step 2: Abduct neighboring families
Step 3: Rinse
Step 4: Repeat
As a result, the number of cases of abductions has increased at a staggering rate, resulting in many nearby households trying to reach out to the CTC and local authorities to escape before being caught. While many many get away, finding shelter here or there... some disappear just before they would have made their flight.
In the cases where homes have already emptied, the next dwelling with a family is selected, meaning sometimes the abductors skip ahead several homes or even blocks.
Regardless, the signs from the abductions seem to mostly point to typical, brute force abductions--aside from the scale. And aside from the initial tire tracks, the vehicles used seem to be untraceable; None of the marks seem to match and cameras of any sort seem to malfunction (in)conveniently during abductions...
Anyone that's been following this for a while will have noticed such by now, given it's been transpiring for just over a month when the first household was spirited away.
Alex gasps and points at the broken door, a shocked look on her face!
"There was a door here! o___o... It's gone now."
Boldly, she marches inside and begins investigating the place, looking for clues!
Hey, Dad... Cops. *Yoko nudges Ookalf and points him toward the group of officers.*
Hm? ...Oh, right. Better see what they've got. *The two walk over to the nearest cop.* So... what's going on here?
Dact adjusts his monocle. "Indeed... I'm afraid that is impossible. I am investigating these recent disappearances." He flashes a business card that says: "Dactylos Decimus Medidias, Private Eye."
"If you are here to assist these families, I can assure you I wont get in your way..." He pauses. "And if you insist on trying to make me leave, you will have to show me some identification first..."
Well, with the abductors being so conveniently organized, the CTC can at least begin modelling their activities and predicting where the next wave of abductions will take place, setting up a map of Muffinville in their commander center and plotting which residences have disappeared on it, in order to determine which ones are the next to vanish, confirming this activity by monitoring to see which families appear to be making efforts to move.
The CTC also begins deploying additional forces into Muffinville proper, sending out armored infantry transports and HMMWVs to patrol the streets of endangered areas and escort any families that can make the evacuation before nightfall. Of course, with the NPC police also involved, and quite possibly irritated at their jurisdiction being trampled on, the CTC arranges for several PR liaisons to do their best to soothe any ruffled feathers and get the CTC forces permission to patrol the city as auxiliaries.
The biggest annoyance to the CTC is the fact that the omnipresent drones in the city appear to malfunction at the critical moments when families are actually being abducted. At least the traces of tire tracks and such left behind indicate that physical means are being used, as opposed to something more esoteric.
At the moment, it seems that the CTC will simply have to try and wait for the next abduction -- although by offering soldiers as bodyguards to families who want to flee, and having regular patrols, they hope they'll at least be able to get some more evidence as to what's going on...
