Experimental Spell Labs

Postby Raleigh » Sat Aug 27, 2011 2:51 pm

*Stepping into one of the more specialized and more regulated labs on his campus.* Hm... so these schools conflict. But what if I were to make a half-mystic who hailed from the magic kingdom? Meh, this is why I have the unfettered trait so I can use all schools. *Grumbling while returning to an experiment.* Mix three parts destruction magic with seven parts binding. *Sets to constructing a new spell.* This should when weaved together properly... *tinker tinker* make a properly constricting net. This should harm anything that tries to force its way out but otherwise hold it down.

Now the question is what category of magic do I put it under and should I make it reagent specific? *In the air floating above him is a massive collection of data files presented as folders all lined up. He shifts through the collection from enslavement to chaos trying to sort where to apply this spell construct.* I wonder when I should let this recent collection of students know their final exam is to make a brand new spell? *Finally decides to place it under two folders one for hunter magic and another for dominance magic.* There, that'll work for now.

Nope, not happy with it. *Pulls the spell from the files.* Add some sonic... *Begins reworking the spell.* Hm.. this should act like a vibroblade that will cut off any limb one tries to force though the net's holes. Should I add some healing to restore lost limbs to reward the patient? Tch...

My personal spell creation lab. *Floats her over to where she can stand on her own on the floor.* I'm working on putting together yet another spell to add to the collections out there. Admittedly once you create a spell and formalize it you are merely creating a crutch but what can you do?

Because it means it takes some of the real magic out of the spell process after a fashion. The ideal magician is someone who uses magic to get whatever results he wants as he wants them rather than one who relies on a formalized set of instructions on how to twist and weave the patterns to get preset results. Or to put it another way a magician who can take fire and make it not only into a ball, a bird, a stream, or whatever else he thinks up is better than one who can only cast a simple fireball with the same amount of invested energy.

Don't let a mess up bother you in transportation. I've fallen out of transports for a lot of things myself not the least of which was the wild energies of people in conflict.

*Raleigh chuckles.* No, runic magic. The magic of runes if you will. Technically this is just a kind of combination of totemic and word magic. You see the futharc, or the alphabet of the Norse, is in itself a magic. Each letter has a special effect and invokes a power and the entire collective is in itself a rather strong spell. With the exception of putting 'thorn' upon something most of them aren't exactly overwhelmingly destructive so blowing something up shouldn't be a problem.
