The Dragon's Grimoire

Postby Raleigh » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:50 pm

*Raleigh, having finished up a rather tiring day of doing whatever metaphysical tomfoolery and fulfilling supernatural obligations trudges down the street for home. Distracted, perhaps, one can forgive him for not noticing a book slipping out of his coat and landing on the side of the road. It is obviously a spell book just from looking at the outside of it and given who dropped it probably of some value to those who would claim it. After all, even if you don't use magic it probably details sciences sufficiently advanced given some of the odd items Raleigh has occasionally used.*

Raoul, college student and former twin, is walking home from his evening Archaeology class at MU. His mind feels thoroughly crushed after spending the last two hours engaged in the mind numbing task of identifying different pot shards to the various cat girl tribes found in the city limits. He is so thoroughly exhausted that he fails to notice the grimoire that Raleigh has dropped. Inevitably he trips, his face greeting the cold pavement like a Violet girl glomping a random passerby!

"D'oh!" he shouts, dusting himself off after his unceremonious tumble, dusting himself off before looking at the book. "Eh? What is this?" he says picking up the tome and glancing it over.

*The outside cover of the book appears to be made up of some sort of scaled leather like material. The writing on the surface seems to just crawl around preventing itself from being easily read whenever looked at directly but he gets the impression that it says something to the effect of simply Dragon's Grimoire. Perhaps a peek inside might tell him more about what he is looking at.*

The college student cracks the tome open.

"I swear, they are getting way carried away with the new Dungeons and Dragons source books." -_-

He turns to the first page of the book...

*The first page seems to be a directory to various chapters. The words seem to writhe for a moment before settling into something Raoul can read. Some of the chapters to find are as follows: How to Emulate Jurian Power, How to Conquer the Sun in Seven Steps, Dark Miracles, Divine Curses, Reality and How to Hack It, Nidhoggr: A Fiendly User's Guide, A Map of the Underverse, Surviving Negaverse Submergence, How to Lose Friends and Make Enemies Through the Use of Mind Control, and other such entries.*

"Eh? The 4.0 edition has really outdone itself in terms of eccentricity" says Raoul, turning to the chapter on Divine Curses.

The book reads the following:
Greetings and welcome to the chapter concerning Divine Curses. First this chapter assumes you have read up on how to channel divine power assuming you are mortal or you are familiar with how to use your own powers assuming you are a divine. In the following pages we will detail some of the most famous and formulaic divine curses starting with some of the simplest ones that target a single individual. We will start with the Curse of the Lode Stone.

".... Eh? Well, that sounds rather boring" says Raoul, flipping through the pages some more. "Where's the pictures of the hot elf women riding tigers?"

*Raoul has flipped to the section on Crossbreeding Magics and Harmonies to find the images he is looking for. There are numbers and arrows indicating how to do what needs to be done.*

"Ah there we go!" says Raoul gazing upon the imagery before noticing the instructions. "Eh... This seems quite complicated... What this about the lime and the coconut, now? Honestly, this makes my textbook on Anthropological Theory seem comprehensible."

*Beneath the picture is a bit more detailed blow by blow of how to get this to work for those who couldn't follow the picture. It also details the esoteric preparations needed for the ritual site of such a mating and what needs to be tweaked to achieve the perfect tiger/elf hybrid for the job. There are even details on how to make sure the result is fertile and will breed true for a few generations thus giving rise to a new race in whatever realm this is carried out in. The next page would seem to detail how to do this with an elf and a badger.*

"Eww..." mumbles Raoul, flipping to the first chapter. "I don't think my mind quite wants to focus on crossbreeding. After all, I'm an anthropologist, not a biologist. Let's see what else this book has to offer..."

*Assuming Raoul only flips some pages ahead he will find a section detailing rituals to turn one's blood into an automatic weapon against those that might seek to spill or drink it. If he flips some more he will find something detailing how to create chimera for under $5. Yet another entry he could flip to details how to create a permanent personal enchantment that will create any magic circles the mage might require for their spells automatically so they don't have to spend time drawing it out themselves.*

Raoul pauses, reading over the text concerning cheap chimeras.

"Hmmm... This isn't really with my forte... But hey, it looks so cuddly!"

He delves further into the text to find more information.

*The text describes how one needs to find small animals that one could catch with just bits of string and items they are likely to already own or be able to dig out of a trash bin. It stresses live capture of the creatures one intends to use and details the ritual requirements that aren't much more than proper words, a properly designed magic circle from your choice of medium, obviously the animals, and a bit of time. You too can now make your own rabbit/rat/snake hybrids or whatever if you just follow the bulleted points on the ritual. It mentions this is perfect for the mage/mad alchemist stuck in the woods and in need of a guard.*
