It works fine. He wouldn't be an effective wizard if his spells spazzed out all the time; in fact, he'd probably be dead.
He decides to casually address the one that isn't yelling about revolution: "Sooo, how do you feel about me paying the shop some money and taking you somewhere relatively safe?"

Lyre sees the newcomer, and knows a good distraction when he sees one. "Uh, she's the shopkeep," he says, pointing to Kolette.

Lyre quietly scoots around to the register and puts a moderately-large amount of cash down on the counter, making a small 'come over here' gesture toward Claudette.

"Just needed you to be close," says Lyre quietly. He puts his palms downward, his clothes flap upward as if in wind briefly, and then suddenly he and Claudette disappear from the place entirely. There's no poof effect or anything, they're just there and suddenly not. From their perspective, however, the store around them is there and then suddenly not, replaced by a rather different location...
