Pirates of Tremore: The Siren's Scale

Dark. Dark skies, dark waters, Slowly through the fog, a pirate galleon rolls across the churning waves. The map they got off the old hag had led the crew here. The mermaids were supposedly near this place, called Siren Rock. And where the mermaids were, the Siren's Scale was nearby.

Or at least they hoped so.

Captain Daniel, Edward, Eren and Edmond could feel the cold in their bones as they dropped anchor. Each of them got in position, hoping to see a telltale sign of a siren to confirm their hopes and dreams.

They each had their own thoughts as they gazed in the darkness.

Erin certainly felt the cold. It was wet, it was clingy, and it draped all over his scrawny body like a soaked blanket. But even the biting chill of the ocean itself couldn't stop the grinning man from hurrying over to the rocking, creaking side of the ship.

"Do you see them!?" he shouted to no one in particular. His beaten hands clawed at the long black locks hanging down over his eyes. "Do you see the sirens? Oh how I've dreamed of this day!"

Edward was below deck... by his post and the cannons. He leans a head out of the port hole... peering down into the water when he isn't looking at the horizon warily...

Daniel gazes intently into the fog, showing no sign that the cold bothers him. "Relax, Erin. If one of us does spot a mermaid, we're hardly likely to keep it secret."

Edward almost closed his porthole due to the churning waves and icy seaspray. But he was glad he didn,t when he saw a golden tail pop out of the surface of the waves. There was no mistaking it: A Mermaid!

Daniel and Eren caught sight of the fin as well. Could it be? This soon?

Edward rubs his eyes... had he mistaken? No that wasnt possible. Instead he yells out. "Tail spotted! Off to port! Might be our fishy maids!"

Erin was all too tempted to dive into the churning waves below and chase after the gold himself when he heard Edward's call, but his better judgment won over in the end. Instead, he reached for a long-poled fishing net, one of many the crew had fashioned for the sake of their treasure hunt, and thrust its tip into the seas!

"Relax? How can I relax!?" The crazed man shot a sharp look at Daniel. His red eyes were wild, wild. "This is it! After all these years, I'll finally be proven RIGHT!"

Daniel rushes to the railing and peers into the waters. "OK, now's a good time to get excited! All hands, get to catching that fish!"

The fin of gold surfaces again, blissfully unaware of the ship amd crew. In fact, she springs out of the water in a perfect arc before diving back in. Even on this dark night, the faint moonlight reveals her billowing golden hair, pale, luminescent skin, and beauteous features.

Edward gulps... she sure was a beauty... of worthy of song and stories. But there was only one kind of story that concerned him now... and that was the one about the fortunes the Scale would bring. "After her!" He urges his compatriots.

Daniel watches in awe as the mermaid leaps out of the water. "She really is as beautiful as they say. Almost seems like a shame to capture her... But, not by that much. Keep it up with that net, Erin!"

Erin cared not for the mermaid's looks, though she certainly was a sight for the eyes after such a long voyage at sea. No, he only wanted the SCALE!

"GET BACK HERE!" he shouted at the merfolk. Of course, his voice didn't carry far across the roaring waves.

Erin's voice might not have carried far, but a mermaid can hear things we humans cannot. She turned and saw the galleon. She began to swim at great speed, her fin spraying seawater all about as she moved at a rapid clip.

"Looks like its time to break out the harpoons, unless the captain has an idea?"

"Hah... Very well. Bring out the harpoons, but be careful! We can't get the scale from it if it's dead!"
