Fabled Lands

Postby Nosnits » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:04 am

((And so it begins, check back at this entry post later for maps, but until then...))

It is an overcast day in the land of Fornatha. A great adventurer or not, your recent travels have left you at loose ends, so you have come to the docks seeking employment. The only job avilible though is an expidition through the Unbounded Ocean, a dangerous job if there ever was one; however, your father, on his deathbed, gave you a beaten old map, entitled Harkun, the land fabled to be across the ocean. As you stand there, talking is overheard "Aye, they mus' be crazy t' be sailing off t' those parts..." You can hear an old, broken sailor say as he walks by the line, "No 'un ever returns...." However the expedition pays well, and you know great treasures must excist on the other side. The person in front of you has signed on, and the sign-up desk is yours. "Aye, what be your name, th' position ye b' able t' hold down on te ship?" He asks you as he hands you a quill to make your mark on the list. After the formalities are finished, you are directed abord to the deck.

((I'm sorry for asking you to do so much on your opening post, but I don't want to clog this up at this point. The order in which you post is the order you are in line so you don't need to wait for anyone to go.))

Ivan sauntered up to the desk, a crafty, confident smirk on his face, eyes glancing around like he was judging if there was anything worth stealing. "I'm Ivan the Dart. Yeah, I heard about this little expedition you got going on here, thought you could use my help. Not much good with a ship, but I'm more then handy with a knife, and there are pirates out there. Know what I mean?" All while he said that, he twirled his knife around, a little trick he learned. People will be more willing to help you out if you've got a weapon in their face, even if it looks like you're just playing around.

"Aye, yes, pirates be abound at sea." The man strokes his weathered beard. Legend 'as it they're called Reavers across th' ocean, but we might never know. You will be a deckhand, bu' keep your knife a te ready." The man directs Ivan to the gangway which leads to the ship.

( They have to serve on a ship? Wow, unexpected. A challenge right of the bat. ^.^; )

"A good day to you, sir," James greets the person behind the desk with an elegant bow. "My name is James, and I am a teller of stories. For a copper coin I'll play one song on my lute, and for two you get to pick which one." He smiled broadly, flashing a set of perfect white teeth as he signed his name with a flourish.

*Jacob goes upto the desk and puts down Martial Arts Instructor or navigator.*

"My name is Jacob and I am a Martial Artist and would be happy to teach people my moves if you are to allow it." Jacob says.

A tall, muscular, young warrior walks up next, sword at his side. His frown on his face shows that he recently had a bad experience going after some treasure recently, and his rough and rugged face only makes that look all the worse. He just stares at the sailor with his expression locked, before silently signing his name. Dropping the quill, the young man looks back up at the sailor, waiting to see what he sailor suggests for his job on the boat to be.

Josh just smirked at the word "fighter" before his expression changed to a nonchalant one. He then stepped onto the boat and took a quick look around.

James just flashes the man what is supposed to be an amused smile before heading up the gangway. He looks around to find an out of the way spot, from where he can observe the others boarding the shop

Josh's looking and James' hiding attempts don't yield any reasults in the short time they have, as the sign-up man has walked, or hobbled because of his peg leg, up to the top of the area above his cabin, right in front of the wheel. "Ahoy 'veryone, i's best we got t' know one 'nother. I be Captn' Grey, bu' you kin all call me sir." He says, "Y'all b' workin' under m' sons an' nephews on this ship' an their orders kin only b' o'reruled b' mine." At this point in the speach, he geastures at several well-dressed men that all bear a resemblence to him, "There are two cutters 'vailible at te port an' starboard en's o' te ship if we e're run int'a trouble. It'll be 'ard work, bu' I wouln't've 'ired y'all if I di'n't think ye could do it, so now we set sail 'cross the Unvounded Ocean." The boats lines are cast off, and it starts to sail. Looking behind, you might be able to catch the last glimps you get of your homeland.

Josh just stares ahead, home being the last thing on his mind at the moment, as he wonders just what sorts of treasure he might find.

Ivan, leaning against the mast, sneered, but didn't make any cutting comments. That could wait until they had pushed off and they couldn't throw him off.
