"I am sure. That is an interesting thought though. Are we allowed to leave campus to buy necessities or do we need to use a school shop? Those closing gates earlier had something of a finality to them after we entered."

The door to Noah and Carl's room slid hesitantly open.

"Hello?" a nervous voice called. It belonged to an equally nervous looking boy. For the most part he looked normal, the circular glasses on his nose were a bit out of fashion, but worked well with his face, which was otherwise average, perhaps a bit on the handsome side. His hair was brown and came down in a ponytail that drooped almost to his waist. His build was slender, athletic even, and he was neither short nor tall. The only particularly unusual thing about the boy was his hat, it was abnormally tall and beat up. It had at one point been a black top hat; but, age and abuse had rendered it a polychromatic oddity. Various patches of remarkably different design had been sewn on to repair holes, and the few remaining parts that bore the hat's natural color had faded horribly. The hat itself was drooping dramatically off to one side, a testament to the suffering it had done.

"I guess I'm going to be your roommate." the boy seemed apologetic about it.
Hmm.... Does anyone actually read these anyway?

"Oh... yeah. They did, didn't they?..." Chione hadn't thought of it in those terms before, but now she considered it, the turn of phrase was very apt. "They never did talk about when or even if we were allowed to leave the grounds, did they?" That could make things very tricky. After all, a girl needed to replenish certain supplies, sometimes! Which were much easier to just go out and get yourself....

Amy has finished her first cookie and begun on the second, but makes a point of swallowing before speaking.

"I'm sure everything will be fine. What sort of boarding school would this be if they didn't take care of the students?"

"Well, this place has proven it to be singular in any number of ways," Chione commented, leaning back against the wall. "Maybe they expect us to figure things out and be independent and what not. Though I guess we can't do that if they don't grant us resources on some level, right?" They could hardly see to their own needs if they weren't given some means of so doing.

/Noah took a look at the new boy, his eyes lingering on the odd hat for a moment, before he shrugs.
There wasn't that much room in the room, but it could fit three. The new arrival didn't particularly seem like a troublemaker either.../

"Well...Hello, then. Are you...Ian, then?"

"Yes." The boy nodded warmly.

"Are you Carl or Noah?" He asked after a moment.

/He seemed pleasant...
Carl found himself smiling at the newcomer. If nothing else, it was a relief to see someone who looked about as out of sorts as he felt./

"I'm Carl--that's Noah right there."

/He thumbs over to his other new roommate./

"Nice to meet you."

Ian nodded hesitantly.

"Yeah." he stated after a moment, "It's nice to see you... Umm... where are the beds?"

"I guess learning things on our own wouldn't be so bad, but sometimes I prefer people just telling me things. You know?"

Amy's finished her second cookie and is now just sitting cross-legged, most of her weight on her arms behind her. She looks very relaxed.

"I hope they have books here in braille..."

"I'm sure you'll be able to work something out." Chione gave her roommate's hand a bit of a pat. "I mean, they're not going to bring you here and not make some sort of adaptation, right? You can hardly learn things if you don't have the means to access the books and what not."

Chione pulled her knees up, resting her chin on them. "I'm guessing they were trying to impress us. I mean, that's common, right? Thinking they have to put a foot down about authority right off the bat, to make sure no one gets out of line. Just like in ordinary school, only a lot more so. Besides, friendliness and adaptation for special needs aren't synonymous. I mean, they invited you here. Right? So that must mean they know. Which in turn means they need to make allowances for what you can and can't do. It would be unfair, otherwise. They go on about teaching us things; they can hardly do that for you if you can't keep up."
