What anime are you currently watching?

I've only watched ten episodes of NGE so far. It's so-so, so far. What is Rebuild? Is it the same story, just revised and with better/different animation?

I won't say tooooo much about it, cause as of now, it still isn't completely clear... but it looks like a sequel to NGE, in addition to a revised look at the series, with improved animation. Confusing, I know, but I wouldn't worry about it until you've finished the original series. It can be stand alone, but I think it makes more sense with the original series under your belt.

Also, speaking of revisions, Shinji's actually kinda badass. Shocking, I know. Same character, but he's much more tolerable as time goes on. Same for Asuka and Rei, if for some reason you get weary of their issues as well, which is relieving.

But yeah, look for a review of it, like several on Anime News Network: the general consensus is that it's improved/matured compared to the original series and movies. So you don't have to take my word for it for being awesome, but know lots of other people are liking it too. The second DVD even comes out at the end of the month. :D

The Definition of Sequel is generally what happens after, this is clearly a remake. Mind you anime a second chance at material generally is a good thing, the difference between a rough draft and a finished piece.. and this time the Director isn't in an insane asylum while doing it!
