PS2 game problem

Well, when I got Tales of the Abyss, I got Xenosaga. But it doesn't work. Well, it worked at Gamestop, on whatever PS2 they're using (it was under the desk, and my mother failed to heed my advice in asking such a question), but not on mine. If I start the system with the game in it, the PS2 menu (or whatever it is) doesn't come up. In fact, I can't turn the power off until I open the lid. And when I have the game read while the system is already on, in the browser it says that it's reading the disc... endlessly.

So, I was wondering what the problem could be. I have no problem playing my other games. Does Xenosaga have some format that's incompatible with the slim version of the PS2?

Also: curses toward Sony and CDs in general.

Is the bottom of the disk blue?

Nope. But it is a dual-layered disc. I have another game that's like that, that I had been able to play before, that now no longer works. As far as I've been able to learn, it's either my drive dying a slow death or the laser needs to be recalibrated so it can read the depth correctly again.

Try cleaning it with compressed air. If the laser is a bit dirty, it might not be able to read a dual layer disk right, but work otherwise.
