Postby Ryan » Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:57 am

I can't decide which of these two games I want....

Doea anyone here have one or both of these games, and would they be willing to tell me which you think is better, or why you think one is good.

Thanks. ^^

I've played both, and in my opinion, Rock Band 2 is better. It's setlist is more diverse, so it has something for everyone. Unlike Guitar Hero which has multiple songs from the same band on disc.

Seriously, there's like 3 tool songs and 2 Ozzy Osbourne. If your gonna have more than one song for a band, make it downloadable...

The guitar in Rock band actually looks like it could be music, unlike Guitar Hero which looks like it would be noise.

The drums...I can't really comment on for GH. Don't play them.

The vocals in GH are broken and...pretty tough to hit in comparison to RB.

The only real redeming quality Guitar Hero has is that make a song mode. And even that's abit lacking. Don't getme wrong, playing the pokemon theme is great, but most of the songs are awful.

Plus, RB has weekly DLC, while GH has a "It'll be out when we feel like releasing it." mentality.

Over all, I'd go with Rock Band 2. Though I just don't think the insane difficulty in Guitar Hero is fun.

I kinda wanna get GH: WT just for the drums, but apparently RB2 is better all-around...

They are really both the same game. No-one can really judge the two because both games can only complete by the song set list and people argue all the time on which is better based on personal preference.

They're really not the same game though. Same idea, different execution. Guitar Hero seems to think Harder is better, while Rock Band goes for more of a "This is how the music can best translate to a game like this.".

Difficulty is not all you need for a good game!

That is true, but both games have drums and a microphone this time making them both applicable to the same audience.

Well in the ned, my mom got me Guitar Hero: World Tour. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, and I think they thought the mapping out more this time.

this may be Mith, but it's really Muffinstud in disguise...

After playing Guitar Heros 2 and 3, then Rock Bands 1 and 2, I've decided to become a hardcore Rock Band fanboy. Reason being a couple of things.

One, Harmonix, the guys behind the original awesomeness of the original GH jumped that ship to make RB. Makes one think...
Plus, RB is a little more modular in the fact that you can make the drums how you want them (especially now with RB 2) and that you can use the kit as an electronic drum pad if you have the right PC software.
That, and three words: Exclusive Motorhead Rights.

I'll give GH one major plus: their guitars have a better feel to them. I hate the rubbery RB strum bars. They drive me nuts.

I have the RB bass, and it works incredibly well. The strum bar is much better.

I hate GH's guitars. The buttons feel off to me.

*Pops in*
Just wanted to add that in addition to the default set list on Rock Band 2, you can also download literally hundreds more (for a small fee) on the interwebs which makes it that much more diverse. ^_^

And personally, I prefer the Rock Band graphics to Guitar Hero... Not that it's all that important on a music game.

I think it has a lot to do with preference, actually. My sister in law absolutely loves the RB guitars.

Oh, and one more plus for RB: Backwards compatibility for songlists. Even for the ones from the RB1 disc. Pure Win.

IAFter playing it for a bit, I'm realizing World Tour isn't as good as Rock Band 2, which I rented from Blockbuster.

But, oh well. I got it. I might as well play it.

I haven't tried WT yet (no one has it) but I want to.

execution wise is mostly similar (save for the drums on WT), so for me, its all about the music.

mostly I play RB2 with drunk friends

Went to a party last night. We literally had WT and RB2 side by side. Here's what I was able to deduce:
Both have great songs by great artists.
Both have weird songs by obscure artists.
WT has better quality weird songs.
RB has better songs for drums and vocals.
The drum pedal on WT sucks [noun]. I had no idea when I was pressing it or not. The pads themselves were much more responsive and quiet than the RB1 drums
Microphones are cross compatible, even across consoles (it's a usb mic, what do ya expect...)
WT has more contemporary songs by recent artists.
RB has more older songs and a wider variety of genres.
RB has more variety in the stock avatars. (not using user created)
WT has Ozzy.
RB doesn't.

What did this all equate to? I spent most of the night jamming to a whole bunch of different songs on RB while a bunch of other dudes kept playing "Crazy Train" all night. We all stopped to see a couple people frantically try to keep their fingers from catching on fire while playing "Battery" by Metallica. (RB) It was epic. Between the two, it was a great night for all.
