New owner of a Wii!!!

Postby Tiffany Grimm » Wed Feb 06, 2008 9:20 pm

Yeah, that's right, I have a Wii now. But the real reason for the thread is what games should I get? I know we're gonna be getting Brawl, but what else is good? Mario Galaxy? Twilight Princess? Metroid Prime 3? Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? What else is good for this system? Please help!

Get Mario strikers, that game is awesome. I was skeptical about a soccer game at first, but it is definitely worth it.

No fair! I still haven't found one... At a decent price, anyway. How did you come about one!? :O

I'd give a recommendation despite having not played any of the games yet, but I really don't know what kind of games you like. But if I had to fall on something that most audiences can enjoy, and still be decent at the very least, Mario Galaxy seems to be a safe bet.

Metroid Prime 3 is a safe bet, and Twilight Princess, though personally more fun to me with the GC version, has plenty of interesting nun-chuck moves to make it viable for a Wii owner.

Ooh, and if you're old enough and don't mind gore, RE4 for the wii is pretty darn sweet too....though you may wish to try and rent it first, I haven't had the chance to try out the 3rd person shooting with a wiimote.

Umbrella Chronicles is a Rent, and so is Fire Emblem: Radant Dawn unless you're already a fan of the FE series.

Target in my town had two in stock. I got really lucky.

Resident Evil 4 aims really well with the Wii-remote and i have a hard time imagining playing the game without one. It would probably be harder, but not in a very fun way. The game itself was pretty mindless and with an absolutely atrocious story, but i had fun with it despite that and that is taking into account how important story typically is to me. A pretty good but unremarkable game in my opinion, but don't let the aim scare you off that is easily the best part of the game and the best third person aim i've ever tried.

As for Twilight Princess then it is the best Zelda i have ever played, though part of that might be because it was the first Zelda i played for any significant amount of time. In any case the Wii-remote allows for much better aim than any other 3D Zelda i have tried since then, such as Ocarina of Time. I also personally find the world much better designed and more evocative than most games i've played, except of course for those games truly famed for excellence in this field such as Okami or Psychonauts. The graphics might not be the best when it comes to the technical side of things, but they are well-designed to such a degree that i won't hesitate to call it one of the most beautiful games i've ever played. In general if there was one of the Wii games i will recommend above all others it will be Twilight Princess, unless you have played the Gamecube Version in which case it might be a bit overkill to buy the game again.

I haven't tried Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy yet on account of a poor financial situation, so i cannot comment on those. However what i can comment on is that my favorite game ever, Okami originally for the PS2, is getting ported to the Wii and should supposedly be out in North America by March 25th. And while they might of course botch the port the celestial brush part of the game should work very well with the Wii-remote. In any case the game is both the most beautiful game ever due to its art direction and the best Zelda'ish game ever, in my opinion at least, so unless the port is botched or you have already played it i cannot recommend getting the Wii version as soon as it is released enough.

Two friends of mine have Mario Galaxy, and they both love it. I'd say it's a good bet. I've seen it played, and it does look like fun. And the graphics are great.

I can't say I've played these, but from what I've heard, they're pretty good:

Mario Galaxies, LoZ: Twilight Princess, Brawl (of course), maybe Metroid. Do NOT get Olympics.

I have a Wii. I was lucky to get it, if I had ordered one day later I wouldn't have got it. Anyhoo, Twilight Princess is an awesome game so I recommend that. My friend got Mario Galaxy and he says it is amazing so I'm gonna get that. Brawl goes without saying and I kinda enjoyed Red Steel when I borrowed it from my friend.

So many...

Galaxy was a great game. It kept me entertained through about a week of near non-stop play. It controls are really easy to get used to, and its definitely one of your best possible choices.

Metroid Prime 3 was another great one. My only gripe with it is that it makes you use the motion sensor at parts where it wasn't really needed, such as opening some doors and when you want to take off in the ship. Some of the fights were really great and intense, and some were let downs. If your a fan of Metroid games, definitely pick this up. If not, you may wanna try renting it first. It's also a bit short compared to the other 2 Prime games. I beat it in about 20 hours or so.

Twilight Princess was an amazing game. The temples were well designed, the controls were simple, the gameplay was awesome, it was truly a masterpiece. Definitely worth a buy.

Mario and Sonic was an okay game, but only if you constantly have people over. It's mostly fun to see your friends doing the motions and such. Wario Ware is much the same, but alot more fun in my opinion.

Strikers got really hard, really fast. I tried renting it twice, and both times I nearly tossed the disc out the window. Maybe its just me though...
