What's With the Board Changes?

Last night (and regularly from now on) the moderators, I (and Sakura if present) meet to discuss and vote on board issues. i'll post points fom the minutes that are important and should be public knowledge here. Keep in mind that some bits are excised out as they are not meant for public knowledge.

Last night's minutes:

  • Keiri and Akemi have resigned, though Keiri has not officially reported to me as such as she refuses to respect my authority. Nikkou considered it but decided against it. Jei is gone of course, involuntarily.
  • Too many mods? Or not enough? There are quite a few who don't seem to care.
  • Shuffling mods as follows:
    1. Kougetsu adds Anime/Manga and is promoted (so to speak)
    2. Kasumi adds Video Games
    3. Jaimie leaves Stories and takes up Polls
    4. Autumn is promoted (so to speak)
    5. Moriko is added officially to the Tea Room
    6. Nikkou is moved to cover Polls and the Intro Room
  • Create a Games Room, and request that people start using it. Duck will be mod.
  • Autumn objects to being promoted, but points are refuted.
  • Alternate names are proposed for some new Princess-level mods, though Sakura may object later on. Autumn requests Tsaritsa Autumn, and Kougetsu requests Kanchou Kougetsu. Nikkou decides to hold off.
  • Brief reiteration that a third admin will be coming soon. People suggest Jaimie.
  • Discussion of RP stuff seems to be unanimously disliked. No one moves on the money, EXP, or powergaming issues for the time being.
  • Theme days is promising. Delegated to Duck with Amber's assistance, and she is to report back in the mod room for us to examine it.
  • Kasumi raises the question of characterization in MSF high. Reaction seems mixed

So are the games from the Muffin room going to be relocated?

And a 'Congradulations' is in order for Duck! Congradulations!

Yeah, Duck congrates. That's so cool.

And the game from the muffin room are going to be moved. Right?

Oh yeah, and are there going to be more updates soon?

I think overall the change will be very healthy. People will be glad I stepped down in the future.

Congrats to Duck, though I already knew who it'd be.

You're going to bring prestige and dignity back to the rank. Whenever I begin to regret stepping down (namely when the other mods are getting snooty and I just want to smack them -- you guys have NO power unless people like you, so you better start schmoozing with the common folk or I'm going to usurp your forums. That's not a threat, it's a promise.) I remember that I made room for YOU.

Already you won a popularity poll where I secured it handily this time last year. This is a good sign. And I want people to give you the same amount of respect I was given.

I knew you dreamed of this day and I'm happy for you. As long as you foster your talents and use them in tandem with your newfound powers, you're going to be remembered and loved.

Thanks Akemi. That means a lot to me. And as I said, I'll do my best to help this place. It's the least I can do.

Well, when I'm not glomping Ahiru or tickling her, she will always have my repsect and friendship.

The following are the most recent meetings' minutes (Friday the 17th and Saturday the 2nd) Sorry for the delay.

September 17th:

  • Sakura explained pretty much why she had been missing and what her current status was.
  • Rehashing what had happened up to this point.
  • Sakura believes people are leaving and mods are resigning because of:
    1. Sakura not being around, which lowers morale.
    2. Mods are not around or are arguing
  • Furthermore, the fights seems to be that:
    1. I'm the only one who cares, everybody else just wants the title
    2. Nobody respects me
    3. I'm depressed, because so-and-so can do this and I can't.
  • General consensus that mods/admins need a set of rules:
  • 1. All mods must make at least 1 comment a week in the board that they are in charge of. If they are absent or cannot be there, they must inform an admin or another mod. (exceptions made for rooms that aren't as busy)
Consequence if broken: Warnings given privately.
  • Sakura has an LJ so you don't have to ask her "How are you"
  • 2. Fights between mods must be kept between mods. (Debates are different). There are to be no catfights between mods publically.
Consequence if broken: Thread to be locked. Warnings given privately.
  • 3. All conversations in mod discussions are private unless otherwise stated.
  • If anyone is going to tell anything that non-mods need to know in particular, let Eirien on Sakura do the talking.
  • More discussion on an "elder"ish board for people who want to see the board grow, but aren't mods.
  • Restatement of MSF's goals: a positive environment free of harassment to help others, provide the best anime TF/TG content, and to kick Fictionmania's ass.
  • MSF must keep the concept where we are a FAMILY...
  • Brief discussion of the front page.
  • 4. All moderators who want to "level up" in moderation levels must request privately to an admin. Their cases will be reviewed, and promotions will be given where granted. (This does not apply to non-mods wanting to become mods)
  • Princesses and Handmaidens no longer need to have those as their titles. They will be made into images.
  • Handmaiden -> Apprentess/Princess -> Super-mod -> Admin

October 2:

  • Moriko begins with her thoughts on the "death" of the boards (Only Tea Room and Game Room get many posts): IRC caused it, by making it canon and untieing the community on the boards. Solution? Make it separate.
  • More is needed though to rebuild the community: Something like halloween.
  • Amber tries to push con, but it is tabled until after October.
  • Propositions for halloween to involve contests and activities on every board.
  • And of course a Halloween party in an Events room.
  • Sakura enters and is brought up to date. Mentions how she got a snail-mail letter from Jei.
  • Autumn has another WriChal planned.
  • Mass discussion on an Event forum, and how the underused Battle Rooms should be handled.
  • Xia proposes changing the Mod Battle Room into the Events room.
  • Confusing poll that might be for making an event room, or for turning the battle room into the event room.
  • Ahiru proposes making the contest room into the events room.
  • A new vote: Leaving the BATTLE room alone:
For: Kou, Frost, Eirien, Sakura, Ahiru, Nikkou
    Against: Autumn, Moriko, Xia
    Abstaining: Amber
(Sakura initially against, but then for when decided that Contests could become Events)
  • Issue regarded as moot as Eirien and Sakura agree. It is also decided by consensus that this implies that Contests will become Events.
  • Kimiko takes the floor and discusses IRC problems, in particular the "mentor" system.
  • Several people mention pace.
  • Vote on adopting the mentor system:
For: Ahiru, Eirien, Kou, Nikkou, Xia, Kimiko, Saya, Amber, Frost
    Against: Moriko
    Abstain: Tanya, Autumn
  • As most IRC mods approve it, it will be put into effect (no word yet on who is in charge of the effort)
  • Continued discussion on speed of IRC.
  • Discussion on IC/OOC aspects.
  • Decision on splitting IRC?
  • Amber makes broader suggestion about Java-based IRC, removing MSFchat, adding IRC page, and so forth. Tabled.
  • Vote: Leave main channel and promote #msfrp, #pinkcloud, #msfbattle "by carrot or stick"
For: Kou, Kimiko, Eirien, Ahiru, Xia, Autumn, Nikkou, Amber
    Abstain: Tanya, Moriko, Saya
  • Kimiko proposes a later IRC specific meeting (same time Monday for IRC-going mods)
  • Back to party discussions
  • Vote: (A) Every room should participate somehowe, even if not an RP (B) Board-wide RP (C) Mix
A: Moriko, Kou, Xia, Ahiru, Tanya, Autumn, Amber, Saya
    B: Frost
    C: Jaimie, Nikkou
    Abstain: Kimiko, Eirien
  • General agreement to have an intro thread soon as well in Events or RP.
  • Game discussions...
  • Murder mystery
  • Confused vote on when to reveal killer? Or when to decide?
Now: Xia, Ahiru, Frost, Moriko, Kasumi, Nikkou
During the game: Kou, Eirien, Amber
    Abstain: Tanya
  • Generally decided that Moriko and others in on the game will be making decisions.
  • Costume contest, but only if you come with one? It would be in the event room.
  • Ahiru still working on calendar
  • Discussion on movement with the front page. General consensus that we should wait on LS no longer.
  • Ideas tossed around on how to do it.
  • Mentioned how he's asked for design ideas and noone responds.
  • On the other hand, he always belittles or argues every suggestion. People don't WANT to respond.
  • Generally decided it's moot (though there seems to be movement to start an in house project with those who CAN do the work)
  • Restatement of what is planned for halloween:
    1. Murder mystery
    2. Related events in every room
    3. Kuro holding trick or treat game
  • More games suggested
  • Musical chair apple bobbing. First to be eliminated (no apple) gets prize. Last to be eliminated gets prize. Which one really wins though? Dice-like
  • Costume contest again.
  • Post game ideas in mod room thread, or e-mail Xia at shugotenshi.x@gmail.com
  • Nikkou proposes MSF Feud. 50 people to answer questions, or less. Two families of five to play. More or less like family feud, only MSF-oriented.
  • Discussion winds down.

What's with the new theme you might ask? Well... Christmas is over. Those with subSilver I left as it is. Everyone else was changed to the red version of Girlz. There is a blue version of it, and there are "Boyz" versions with the same colors. Musa got "Boyz Blue" ^_-;

However, it would be nice if someone could find a nice neutral image to use generically for the purposes of default theming. You know... so people won't complain that we're being biased against guys (like how it's currently set to Girlz Red)
